It probably is CTS if you're on the computer a lot. I used to be a typesetter and developed CTS in both hands (wrists). I had to wear braces until the pain subsided, then I could go without them until the pain came back.
You could try cold packs or ice on your wrists to reduce the swelling but braces work and you can still use your hands while in the braces. It's a bit hard to use the pinky fingers and thumbs if you type with braces on but it can be done.
I've heard that surgery works and that surgery doesn't work from different people so I wouldn't even consider surgery if there's a chance it won't work. The braces work fine in getting rid of the pain.

First of all, you should visit any doctor for confirmation of the disease and then start the treatment as per his advice. But in the mean time you may follow the following advices-
(1) Stop activities that cause numbness & pain.
(2)Rest wrist longer between activities.
(3)Wear wrist splint at night to keep wrist in a neutral position.
Besides these, the following conditions may precipitate or aggravate the disease which are -
(1)Illness such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis,
(2) Pregnancy,
(3) Obesity,
(4) Wrist injuries & bone spurs,
(5) Smoking because it can reduce blood flow to the median nerve.
So the prevention measures to be followed by you are -
(1)Lose weight if over weight.
(2)Get treatment for any disease that may cause CTS.
(3)Take regular breaks from repeated hand movements to give your hands & wrists time to rest.
(4) Refrain from smoking.
CTS is usually not serious. With treatment pain will usually go away & no lasting damage to hand or wrist. Splinting or bracing, activity modification, physical or occupational therapy are all that can be done.
As I am a homeopath, I am suggesting you some homeopathic medicines which you may try-
(1) Rhus tox- It is useful when stiffness & pain are worse on initial motion & improve as movement continues.
(2) Ruta-It is indicated when overuse of joints & irritation of nerves lead to tremendous stiffness. Lower potency to be used. If response is not satisfactory 2nd dose
(3) Apis- It can be used if tingling & numbness radiates up the arm & have swollen wrists & fingers.
(4)Causticum - It can be used if tingling & numbness in fingers, fingertips & thumb but limited swelling.
(5)Lycopodium - It can be used if tingling & numbness in all fingers except little finger, with or without wrist swelling.
(6) Calcerea carb - It can be used for tingling & numbness & swelling in wrist & 1st 3 fingers.
