Hello friends
I watched debate in TV about the milk and its consumption, from where we get milk, how it produced, is it completely natural etc. The debate was based on particular state in South India and the packet milks available in this state also shown and some tests are also conducted in between the debate. Some brands were not fulfilled the required quality.
We know that only human beings are using milk after they grown up. They are depending on mother’s milk upto 2 years (approximately) then they are depending on animal’s milk or artificial milk.
One of the participants who revealed that milk is digestive in human body upto the age of 4 only after that it won’t digest. According to him milk will digest only if it converts into curd. That information is very new for me I thought that milk is a better source of calcium and very necessary for all age groups. I agree there are many other things which are rich in calcium and we can replace the same instead of milk.
Why people are very particular on milk? A person who does not drink milk is definitely using milk in their tea and coffee. I heard that once the milk is added in tea we lost the quality of milk and tea, then why can’t we drink our tea without milk?
What about you, do you drink milk everyday? Are you using milk only in coffee and tea? Are you sure about the quality of milk you got from store. Anybody here, still using the home made milk getting from cow/buffalo/goat?
Please share your knowledge, views and opinion.

Hi Sree!
I take a glass of milk everyday and I have been doing it since my childhood. I understand that milk and milk products are good source of calcium and some other mineral. I feel that it is difficut to get unadultrated pure milk now a days, still whatever we consume in the name of milk does benefit us to some extent. One needs to take a beverage with breakfast or during the day/evening/night so one will have to consume milk, butter milk, tea or coffee etc. Some prefer to take black tea etc., but without milk, its strength comes down.
What about you?

Sree - We normally take cow’s fresh milk and it is as expensive as any reputed company’s packed milk. No doubt we are also feeling the pinch of price rise.

Hello Anand,
That is the interesting thing, despite of increasing price, the demand never go down. That participant explained that the milk never digest through our digestive system, it digesting through the lungs and become mucus (in lungs). I too didn’t understand it clearly, as it is a debate, many are interfering in between.
We too purchasing the Amul milk and you know the increase of price today, me.. shocked.
Thank you so much anand, have a nice week.

Hello sreekala, the fact is our bones do keep on deteriorating in quality. We need to supplement that calcium. Taking calcium tablets is one way. But how much calcium our body can absorb also varies from individual to individual. Osteoporosis is a harsh reality. And so is the fact that excess amount lactose ends up in brain leading to other complications. I read somewhere that it is better to opt for calcium tablets. I dont particularly relish milk. But I do eat porridge, and cornflakes so some bit of it gets into my system everyday. I prefer calcium intake through other routes, such as fruits and vegetables. I eat healthy quantities of vegetables so that I get my calcium. I hope it will be enough for my lifetime. :)

Hi Vandana,
I agree, Osteoporosis is a major concern especially among women. The calcium we consume, can store in our body upto the age of 30 only (That is I what I read) so the younger generation should take care of this thing and add the sufficient calcium in their diet before reaching to this age. Actually in younger stage all are ignorant or neglect their health and suffer in the old age. Taking calcium tablets is also a good option.
Thank you very much for your wonderful reply.
Have a nice day.

Thank you for the BR Sreekala. Calcium tablets are so affordable! Rs.125 or almost a month and a half! But they should not be taken in excess just because they taste good. Calcium tends to get into any fatty tissues, especially in fat lining blood vessels. If it lands there, then there can be circulatory problems.

Milk and milk products are part of our eating habit from ancient time. I also use milk in tea, coffee or only milk, warn or hot. I like milk and milk products. Fresh milk is good for health. But in these days pure and fresh milk is not available in cities although in rural area it is not problem. It right that we can digest curd easily but we can also digest milk in every age. My son is of 23 years old but he never use tea. He drink only milk from the birth. He have not any problem of health. milk is good source of calcium, vitamins and protins. so use milk without any if but, it is good for your health.

Hello anil,
I am not an enemy of milk but try to share the information here with my friends which I got through a debate. About the digestion of milk, it is sure milk will digest very slowly; you can try to have one glass of milk in morning then you won’t feel appetite or eat anything for long time. In kids, my 4 year old faces problem if he drink more than one glass in a day.
Thank you very much for the participation.
Have a nice day.

Milk is complete diet in it self it have enough nutrision so we will not feel hungry for long time, so it seems that it will long time to digest. Your kids have problem from but it is not common, some have acidity from milk but it is not common problem. over all milk and milk product are good for health.

I like to drink cow milk, any kind of milk, full cream or low fat, powder or liquid, instant or original... I heard that it takes around 8 hours for our body to absorb the milk that's why it was suggested to drink milk only when about to sleep at night.
I normally buy from the supposedly best brands in Indonesia and if that is not fulfilling the standard, then I don't know where should I get it from elsewhere...

Hello Jenny,
You are very smart to deal with milk and its consumption. You mean it may digest after 8 hours? I don't drink milk everyday, earlier when I didn't get time to have my breakfast then I depend on one glass of milk. And you know what was in mind, I thought that taking milk in the morning is good, the reason, Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium and this vitamin is available from sun... so drinking milk in morning may be more beneficial (lol). Now I think I have to change all my beliefs, I may get new lessons from more participants. Let me wait dear.
Thank you much Jenny for adding your inputs.
Take care and have a nice week.

Is it a true fact that milk will digest only in curd form? I hate milk when I was a kid but I really love it now but I don't drink milk everyday since my favorite drinks is plain water.I don't like coffee and I like plain tea with sugar- I can't drink milk tea I hate it so much. I am not very sure about the quality of the milk I bought from store, we don't have much choice and ways to investigate about it. Usually I just buy a carton of milk from supermarket and never drink fresh milk from the farm- I don't know where I can have it here. I wonder how the very fresh milk is taste???

Hello CTHanum,
Fresh milk is very tasty
I agree with your words 'we don't have much choice to investigate'. We have the option to get whatever available in the market else don't use milk. But I don't know how it is practicable.
Thank you so much for your views.
Have a great weekend.

Sree, you are really great! Watching debate in tv not only could widen your info and knowledge, it has become your, this wonderful topic here as well
All the info about the disadvantages of milk mentioned in the debate have to remain to confirm yet I suppose. I don't simply believe to all the contentions in the debate providing by the participants lol...Anyway they would be on the second thoughts to find out the facts.
As what I know animal milk is not the only source to provide us calcium. Other than soybeans as well as products from soybeans, leafy vegetables in green are very rich in calcium as well. When my son reached the age, about 18 months old or so, that was the time to feed him with paste stuffs like porridge, etc. The nurse advised me to grind bilis fish or anchovies into powder form and stirred with porridge to feed my boy. It's a kind of dried fish about 3 to 4 cm in length. It's believed rich in calcium. Taking this regularly could strengthen and help the growth of toddlers bone and teeth.
May be I was adapted with the habit of drinking milk since my childhood, lol...therefore milk as well as milk products have become my favorite beverage and food until now. Nowadays it's difficult to get fresh cow milk so I take milk prepared from milk powder. I purchase milk powder from trusted brand. Actually I don't know whether it's safe enough for taking this daily. For the sake of safety I tend to take green leafy vegetables daily and cut down the amount of milk taking recently.
I enjoy sipping hot cup of coffee and tea as well as milo with milk powder added to it. All these drinks seem not that aromatic if without milk stirred with it. So please serve me with the mentioned drinks with lots of milk in case I visit you one day lol....I love yogurt very much as well. I don't care whether taking milk is good or not I just pursue the fascinating taste of milk in my favorite drink lol...here is the late comer again.
Have a niceday my dear and happy posting.

Hi dear,
I agree that speech by the participants are yet to be proved. (I would like to add that the participants were proficient in their respective fields, like scientist, ayurvedic doctors etc, of course the general public were also present)/
You will definitely get a cup of fresh cow milk if you meet me in my native place. I am sure you will enjoy the taste of cow milk, since the cows are feeding grass and other natural things there won't be any harm for your health. So when I can meet you.
Thank you so much for your views.
Have a lovely weekend.

I have heard good and bad things about drinking milk as to whether it is good or bad for you to consume daily. I think it is good for you if you drink it in moderation and if it is not contaminated. We need the Vitamin D for strong bones and our immune system.

I do not believe that adult humans should regularly be drinking another animal's milk. We can get the same nutrients from other sources and in a more digestable form. I don't drink milk every day, or even every week, unless it's plant-based - then again, I'm mildly intolerant, lol. I've never really put milk in my tea or coffee (tastes much better without), so that's not even an issue. I'm also not concerned about the quality of the milk I do purchase for my son, but he's going to have to slow down on the dairy as he gets older. To sum up, I don't see the point of using milk as a nutritional supplement. If you just like the taste and are able to handle it, then go ahead. But don't fool yourself into thinking milk is some kind of elixir.

Hi LadyDulce,
I don’t have a problem if I drink milk then also I don’t feel good with milk always. I know there are many alternatives available for calcium. I care the problems with milk than its advantages. My younger son has much problem if he drinks more than one glass in a day. So I follow the way which is comfortable for the family.
Thank you so much for your view points.
Have a nice time.

Dear friend,
Milk is best form of liquid that has much role in person's health. As it is seen that the babies starts with mother's milk. Even those animals all they come up mostly after having milk. I had also heard that it helps to give a resistance power from infections and other diseases. I do drink milk with coffee, may be I like the taste of it.

If one is lactose tolerant there will be no digestion problem consuming milk. Many are not and they suffer indigestion and discomforts that follow. I am a milk baby and like everything that is made from milk including chocolates. I must have a hot cup of milk before going to bed which is called a night cap. It is supposed to induce sleep. I have no reason to doubt the value of milk in my system as it has done me no harm. But I do know that if I eat too many sweets that are predominantly made from milk I do suffer from indigestion but that happens once in a way. We are in the year 2011 and in the last 2011 years not much fears have been expressed about the dangers of milk.

Hi allknowing,
I had an impression that milk is good for health. After watching the program I started to think about all these. I know the kids who have respiratory problem should avoid milk (this is from my experience). Once my elder son was small his pediatrician in Kerala told us, not give milk to him instead provide him an egg. According to him milk is making mucus and makes the kids unhealthy. But when we reached in Delhi, the Pediatrician here made no restrictions like that except the time he was problem with his stomach.
If you don’t have any problems then enjoy the benefits. Thank you so much for sharing.
Have a nice week.

If you have the time kindly read through this article on lactose intolerance: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/lactose-intolerance/DS00530. Milk does not agree with many but there are an equal number who benefit from milk. You will be surprised to know that lime juice or anything that is sour does not agree with me but the whole world is singing the praises of lime juice. Even among fruits for that matter I cannot tolerate pineaple. It is therefore necessary to look at an individual per se and not generally state that anything is good or not good. One man's meat is another one's poison.

Hi didi
Doctors have banned almost all milk products for me Still, I have my Ice creams whenever I feel better and see some occasion to celeberate.
The milk that we get in packets, they are mere chemicals and nothing related to milk. I had a small experience to share what leads me to believe this - one day when my wife got a pack for her tea, it got spilled on the floor. She cleaned out most of it but some still lay back. The next morning we found that area of the floor was patched. The chemicals lead to some reaction and destroyed that patch of flooring.
The one's that we used to get (when we were young) from the cows, was fresh until the milkmen decided to add more of water into it to make more profits. Sometimes, I feel happy that I am forced to be away from milk. The only form of milk I take today is curd - almost regularly and that too from the packed stuff... not et all hygenic.

Hi dear brother,
Welcome back dear, hope you are doing fine and your journey was successful. I supposed to send a mail to you, but on coming in office I was in a mood to start this topic, if I postpone then I may get lazy. Anyway I am glad to see you here in my topic.
Coming to the topic, yes dear, some of the participants (in the debate) said that some are adding washing power (nirma) to the milk (then no wonder the floor was patched). In our childhood we got the pure milk from cow and goat (we had goat at home and enjoyed the milk too) now there is no option but to depend on packet milk, that too become very costly, (Today the amul brand raised the price again). Now the cow’s milk is also not pure like earlier, because, many people are not ready to keep cows in home and those who are keeping house in the purpose of milk production and sales, so they may depend on special cattle foods, which may harm human’s health. (Some laboratory people were there in the debate and they tested some brands of milk, I observed that the famous brands (in Kerala, it is Milma) maintain the required quality). Does it mean that we can trust the famous brands?
Thank you so much dear, take care and have a nice week.

In India - Trust is one word everyone keeps saying but never practices.
There is no sense with this word as practically we have not that stringent laws as in US or UK where they make it mandatory for food products to have all the specifications on print on the packets. Again, if there are some who follow, there are no laws into enforcement to put these things into effect.

Its depends on age and health condition. In generally we all know very well that daily we have to drink one glass (pure) milk, then, it is happy. You know one thing, if we drink a glass of pure milk with full sugar(daily night before sleeping) then we will sleep so much... Its true....

I personally do not like to drink milk and have not for many years. I could not stand the smell and taste of milk as it was starting to spoil. I will use it to cook with but I do not have it every day nor do I think it is necessary. I do know we need calcium which is suppose to be the primary reason we drink milk but we can get calcium from other food sources.

Hello interactive,
If you don’t like to drink milk then don’t do it. There are many other sources of calcium and you can depend on that. Green leafy vegetables, fruits, etc. Almond is a great source for calcium and it will add your beauty and intelligence. Soak 4-5 almonds overnight and have the same in morning.
Thank you so much for sharing your views.
