suffering from insomnia happened to me when i was at high school. i do love coffee but since it's making my insomnia worse i try my best to avoid it (i often drink coffee before sleep). and before sleeping, i try to put my mind into peace, no thinking of failing grades, no thinking of my crush and the girl flirting with him, and especially no thinking of that evil math teacher who hates me. haha just try your best to feel peaceful, and avoid thinking of any problems, drinking coffee, and too much exhaustion before sleep.. :)

I never tried my hands at sleeping pills. If you get dependent to sleeping pills, you'll have another problem. I'm not so sure about this if it is effective for everyone. I drink milk when I can't sleep. I can really feel how milk makes me sleepy. I have also read that you should not drink any caffeinated drink after 12 noon because it will also cause sleepless nights. It is also helpful if you exercise at 4 or 5 in the afternoon. It will make your sleeping time really smooth.

I was never an insomniac, I always had no difficulty sleeping, but over the past few years I started to notice that have been having trouble sleeping, I know how and why it started, but I don't know how to stop this problem
I don't really take sleeping pills for fears of becoming dependent also I don't really believe in taking pills unless its just for a headache or other basic pains but not for sleeping.
I hope you get some good tips because I'd like to know how to stop my insomnia as well.

Meditation has been known to calm the mind and relax the body. Have you tried that? Every time I try to meditate I end up sleeping.

I'd recommend indulging with a hobby you enjoy. Pretty soon you'll sense you are satisfied and by just eating a favorite food your days is complete and I doubt if that will not make you sleep.

I've been there too... here's what I did and so far so good it worked. First, take a warm bath then you gotta clear out your mind from all the stressors, do meditation for about 10-15 minutes, just think of nothing, believe in the laws of attraction. Then drink a glass of warm milk. When you're lying down on your bed already, close your eyes and do chanting - a repeatitive positive sayings in your mind like "I will be a millionaire tomorrow"... you keep chanting that phrase in your mind, before you knew it, you'll be deep asleep already... im serious! That's what I do every night I go to sleep.
The other benefit of that is it is programing your subconsciousness to become a positive magnet, attracting what it is you want to happen in your life and that is to be a millionaire. Who knows, it might happen you know :-)

Hi joeyalberta! I also do suffer from insomnia sometimes. I took some pills before but it turns out that they are giving me headaches or sometimes I tend to oversleep. I do it the natural way now but drinking a glass of warm milk and eating a piece of toasted bread or 1 piece of banana before sleeping. It works well to me. I hope it could also do the same to you. Happy mylotting!

I'm not an insomniac, just a night person, or nocturnal if you want to call it..
But let me suggest how about doing some heavy work in the late afternoon, around 4 to 6 o clock. Stuff that gets you tired and sore your muscles. That way, when its time for bedtime, you'll fall asleep fast.
Another idea: how about tiring your eyes? Like reading a lot or play video games or use the computer. Its always easier to sleep with tired eyes, at least thats what I think.
Anyway, hope I helped somehow. Goodluck finding something that works for you..

I would suggest taking a shower and rubbing one off before bed. I know this sounds juvenile but it works wonders. Going to bed warm, clean, and relieved will help you sleep. Don't pop pills because it's only a temporary solution that makes things worse in the long run.

Some natural cures for insomnia are melatonin or valerian root. I believe both can be found in supplement form or teas. Melatonin helps with reestablishing your natural circadian rhythym (day/night/sleep cycle) to initiate sleep, and valerian root has a calming, relaxing effect that is helpful for those losing sleep due to anxiety, worry or recurring thoughts. But doing some of the other relaxation tips others have already recommended such as a hot bath and meditation to clear your mind would certainly help as well. Listening to "white noise" relaxation CD's might also help. They typically have nature sounds, such as waterfall, raindrops, ocean waves, thunderstorm, etc. that are said to help alter brain waves to initiate the sleep state. Hope some of these suggestions are helpful.
