I know most of you are into FB. Recently, there have been changes in FB for securing the account status. They keep improving on their settings - something I really appreciate. I just want to know, if there has been any 'hibernation' thing enabled in FB? Hibernation as in going into slumber or inactive state, without being googleable or even found out by others?

I'm not a very active user of facebook at all. From the little that I know, Facebook allows you to suspend your account. According to them they will Remove your profile information and content. You will not be searchable within Facebook. You can reactivate later with everything intact. This link may be useful http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=13015&ref_query=deactivate At the same time, I think what is cached by search engines will remain for some time. Hope this helps

Privacy settings "View Settings " Connecting on facebook options This may help in restricting the search within facebook, but may not control the search engines searching.

Thanks for the response. However, can we be active and not be search-able still?

Hi Mimpi! I do not have much technical knowledge about Facebook, because I visit this site occasionally. I think if you type a particular name on the search window and if that person has an account on Facebook, all accounts with the same name will appear on the screen. If any user opens open an account with an unreal name, then I think, it would be difficult to find her/him till s/he is known personally to you.

Oh deepak that's true. Do you have any idea how your name do not come up in the search while you still have an active account?

Hi Mimipi, They say you learn something new everyday so I am off to edit setting so I am not on public search and also go offline on the chat option too but even the public search block I should imagine not be totally secure. I have typed me in before now and come up with all sorts from government petitions I have signed etc. Maybe contact Facebook and ask. I know that you can make your account secure https rather than http but becomes unsecure temporarily when you go into Zynga games on there. Huggles. Ellie :D

To the best of my knowledge, this is not something that exists of facebook. However, it is something that I think needs to be developed on facebook. There are a lot of times that I will forget to close my windows when I leave the house and that means that people think that I am available online when I am away from the computer. I receive a lot of instant messages from friends when this happens to me that I never have the opportunity to respond to.

I agree Dora. Facebook has been working on a lot of things lately and they need to work more.
