Why do we idolize sports player?

Why do we idolize sports legends? Is it the way they take the sport to a new level? Is it their athletic prowess? Or is it the income that they make? Or is it that they are internationally recognized(and worshipped)?

It might be because they have something or maybe all of the concepts you've just described that we would've liked to have but we don't.
So the only thing we can do is cheer for either an athlete or a team that we can relate to in any way.
