My computer shut down automatically.

A few days ago while I was logged into mylot.com, a message was suddenly displaced on the computer screen that my computer was going to be shut down automatically within a minute. I was puzzled for a while and before I could log out from mylot.com, my computer was shut down automatically. I tried my level best to reopen it but failed. Having no other alternative I had to call in/ seek help from a computer mechanic who repaired the fault and the computer started functioning again. I asked him the reason behind such a sudden shut down but truly speaking he could not properly explain the reason behind. Can you throw any light on it? What added fuel to the fire was the automatic deletion of the antivirus device installed to it. As I could not reinstall the antivirus device due to loss of documents, I had to install a new one. But the problem which I faced afterwards was that whenever I logged into mylot.com and some other sites, my computer got hanged. My mechanic advised me to use Mozilla Firefox instead of internet explorer and after using it I am now in a position to log into mylot.com. But still now I think it is not working as before. My mechanic cannot help me. Under such circumstances, can you help me? Can you suggest any other browser for better result?

A virus is a good candidate here, but I would think twice before. A lot of factors can cause a shut down without the user intervention, most of the are hardware problems. First we need to see the problem clearly. Can you posts a screenshot of the message popup that appears before the shutdown? It for sure can tell something important. You may also check the CPU/GPU temperature, the power supply power and energy consumption and the state of RAM chips.

When I am having problems with the internet, I will use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. However, I've heard other people that really like Chrome. I can't give any kind of insight when it comes to Chrome because it is not a browser that I have ever tried. I certainly hope that the other members of mylot have been able to help you to get your computer straightened out. My husband said that he would reinstall your operating system and see if that helps the computer.

Frankly speaking this only happens when a virus or a malware file is installed on your system. The only solution behind it is to get the computer formatted and agin install windows with a new antivirus. And keep your antivirus updated everytime.

Hi sonaimajumdar, I so long used a very good antivirus device for my computer. My computer had been thoroughly formatted and a new antivirus device had been installed. Within a week, I have already updated it thrice but the problem still persists whenever I try to use Internet explorer.

Hi DoctorDidi, Could it have been some malware and or virus? Sounds like your repair guy did a full reformatting of your pc. In which all previous programs get wiped out and removed. If so make sure you do have a virus protector and malware/spyare as well. I use Firefox and will not use IE, as I find IE way too slow for my taste. I prefer Firefox over any other and have not had any problems with it. I am currently using the 4.0 upgraded Firefox, as I too reformatted my entire laptop just last week. I am just wondering if you had some kind of malware, because I did and it completely took over my PC. Not allowing me to see any files and or programs and although I removed my malware I decided to reformat anyways because I also installed a new hard drive.

Yeah I have 4.0.1 and I really like Firefox and do not like IE at all. I have that one on my PC and never use it. But will be changing that one soon to FireFox. It is a matter of preference and I prefer FF.

I convey my heart-felt thanks to both of you for your kind help. I am not sure which version I am using. I had downloaded it from internet. My window is XP and so I think I can use Firefox 4.

Just like everybody around here said-- it's a virus/malware. My computer shuts down all the time without giving me a message, but that's because my computer is old and it keeps overheating.

I know mine will shut off it there is anything observed that could hurt the computer. Usually my laptop used to turn off when it overheats and that is the usual problem. There are a couple of good browsers and I am sure you will get a response from someone who has those hames. Good luck!

I want to help you but I am not from computer background. So I am helpless. I also face some problem with my computer, like slow working but all happen due to virus. Although I have anti virus program in my computer. When I face any problem in my computer I will reinstall window.

I can't tell for sure the cause of your problem. However, since you indicated that the computer will hang when you use IE, it means that somehow your IE and Windows is corrupted. Firefox is not tied to you OS so you are still able to use that. If in fact you OS is corrupted, the only way to fix it is to reinstall the OS.

I use internet explorer and it seems to work, although I have contracted alot of viruses from scam PPC sites, so most of the time that causes problems somehow.
