Ppl keep calling

If that person is being called upon it sounds like for debts and you share the phone... well if it's in your name you have every right to tell them the person is not at that number or you could be a stickler and give them that person's mobile number. As my hubby who has 2 sisters who can't seem to keep on top of their bills so we get a series of phone calls from companies doing skip tracing.

All I do is inform them that this is the wrong number and whoever they are trying to reach has a new number. I don't usually get called by them again

Stop answering the phone? Ask them to stop calling? Hang up on them as soon as they ask for the other person? Recognise the number and let it go to the answering machine?

If the people calling are from a business, you legally have the right to demand that they remove your number from their call list; do it verbally and back it up in writing. Check your local laws, but in my state, if you document they call you 3 more times after you have requested your number be removed from their call list (this includes and especially applies to creditors)then you can take legal action. If it is a personal issue, block the phone number of the person calling your number. Lastly, if all else fails, make sure you have caller id and just do not answer the phone when that person calls.
