Hi Shelley, welcome to myLot! =D
I also notice that most people are gaining weight as they grow older. I remember that question was also raised before by one of the attendees of the Stress Management seminar I attended from our company. As per the doctor who was the speaker of that seminar, when a person gets older, the metabolism also changes. He also added that, our metabolism usually starts to change at the age of 35. So when you started having a slow metabolism and you eat more calories and fats, you're body won't be able to easily burn the fats and calories you take into your body, thus you'll gain weight. It is strongly recommended to exercise daily to burn our fats particularly if a person doesn't have a fast metabolism. Exercise won't only make us healthier, it will also makes us sexier LOL. :)

I agree to this. That's why I always advise my friends to exercise daily, not go to the gym. Simple exercises like stretching, walking, dancing, these can help ease out those fats. And I also find cardio exercises to be helpful in keeping body fit and slim. If you're not into strenous activities, you can do yoga.

As you get older your metabolism slows down. So what you may have been able to eat as a teenager and stay skinny will not work when you are older. You will have to eat less or exercise more just to maintain your weight when you are older. Take care.

Metabolism changes with age and often you lead a more sedentary life too. Waistline changes ater you have children (in fact your whole body changes even if your weight remains the same). You can stay in good shape eating healthy (no snacks) and doing some exercise. But you will not go back to the body you had as a teen.

Dear Shelly, I do share your problem. My weight is 145 lbs. and I am 68 years only. I have managed to keep my weight to 145 or 150 for the last 20 years. My key success is to increase my hear heat at a higher level. A level that when you walk, jog or swim you must have a slight panting feelings. Of course you cannot eat that much when you were a teenager. Why because you were more active and your metabolism is very high. In conclusion I suggest that you eat more healthy food more frequently and eat quality food . The FDA food pyramid would be a good guideline. Moderate exercise i a must to you. OK? I hope this little advice does help you. Any clarification, please do write to me again via this site. Thanks. Love: Bro. Joe GBU;
