We all know pain or have experienced pain somehow. Knowing that, subjecting others to pain makes us think that they will be hurt if we did that so we don't do it. Do you think pain is the basis of morality, or is there something else involved?
What else is involved? Embarrassment, violence, abortion, humiliation, death all involves pain either from the person or other persons.
Does conformity take part in morality? What do you think?

How does abortion involve pain? If you mean the procedure , the surgery is painful than ye I agree. But if you mean society feels the pain , I disagree. It is up to the woman if she is ready to have kids , No one else.
I don;t think pain is the basis of morality, Fear is. Many are being moral because of their fear of G-d. me? What morals I have is because if I didn't act this way, I would feel worse. For example, I would feel bad , really bad if I didn't say thank you to someone who helped me.

I guess it is different in every nation, culture or community. In your perspective I guess as you live in an individualistic culture you think no one else is affected.
Whatever,, now if fear is the basis of morality then what is the fear in abusing animals?

Then what is the basis of morality if it is not pain? How would you know right or wrong if you don't feel pain?

You don't need a wound to feel pain. Without pain receptors we won't be able to respond to stimuli. How would you know if an action is wrong?

Personally it has never been of most people's intentions to ever cause any pain. Most of the time if someone is causing someone some pain, they are usually experiencing something themselves somewhere, and just not able to deal with everything. I think personally most of the pains a person should ever have to experience should be physical as those are bad enough. But unfortunately sometimes there will be many Emotional pains and hurts and we just need to learn to move thru them.

Why should pain the basis of morality? Is it because we hate pain and want to lay all that is untoward at its doorstep? or is it the fear of the unknown that make us to associate everything despise with pain?
These are the questions for an armchair analyst. I have a more practical goal of getting on and through life. For me anything to do with morality and for that matter mortality has to be positive. No matter how deep the well we are in, there is still light from above, however small.

Well i would think on the basis on morality and i wouldn't hurt others this way. I wouldn't want others to suffer the same pain as i did so i would advise them and tell them not to repeat some of the mistakes which i have done so that they would not share the same pain as i did.
Cheers!

I don't think morality has anything to do with it, i think some people are just controlled by anger. I don't know about anyone else, but when im angry my thought process goes right out the window and "right and wrong" are no where in sight. Just runs on instinct.

How would you know the right thing to do without pain?
Lets say I killed your mom, what would you feel if there is no pain? How would you respond if there is no pain? We react to pain. How would you figure out the right thing to do if pain is absent?

I guess as cliche as it is to say, "doing the right thing". There are so many different variables though so it's hard to be so cut and dry about it you know? Everyone has their own way of doing things or dealing with things so who am i to question someones morality?
