Were you home schooled or did you attend a public school/private school?? What do you think the pros and cons of home schooling and/or public school? Personally, for me: I attend a public school. Private school was way too expensive and that was out of the question. I don't think I'd want to be home schooled because I wouldn't have a teacher since my parents both worked and I sometimes felt like I rather do homework on my own then go to school and pick my own hours but then having friends is what made me want to go to school. I won't be lonely, be entertained and have fun at the same time :) Plus, I believe public school helps prepare you for the real world, you get to know new people, communicate although with home schooling, you do communicate with people when you meet up in groups of other home school-er kids but its not as often. The cons about going to public school, is you can get caught up in the wrong crowd, decide a wrong path, exposed to alcohol/smoking or something. What are your views about being home schooled or public schools/private schools?

This is a tricky question. It could be good either way. I belive that if a child can do well in school then he/she needs to stay in school. It gives them the chance to see how others live and react to life's deals. They get great communication with others. When they become adults then it won't be so stressful for them to handle daily life.

My kids has been homeschooled and don't have problem to interact at there job. It is just a mind set on how homeschooled kids are, I think often the one that think like that, never homeschooled there own kids.

I don't know why people think that because their parents homeschool them that they have no social life. I homeschooled my kid since 20 years now and they are mostly adults, they are very sociable and can talk with no problem to any group of age without making a difference. So homeschooled kids are not more on.

I went to public school. I was left to float through for almost all of it. I went down hill in middle school and was told I was lazy. No one wanted to believe I was trying. four years later I was switched to a new school one for the trouble kids. I was there a week they diagnosed me with a mild form of dyslexia and helped me learn how to work with it. I passed with strait A's the last two years of high school. My husband had similar situations. That said I did put my kids in public school only to watch the same hings happening to my daughters. I pulled them out three years ago to homeschool via a cyber school and have never regretted it. They have surpassed my expectations in their learning. They enjoy it and my threat for lazy days (yes we all have them) is that I will send the m back to public school which they do not want at all. They have social time with friends on the weekends and during their many many dance and tennis lessons. I will never send them back.

what is good with your place OpinionatedLady is that there are options such as cyberschool that is available. unlike here in our country we do not have such and schools here often times cannot even diagnose children with dyslexia or other disorders.

Lets see the positives of private school is that more or likely you will get a better education as the teachers are probably alot more educated since i beleive they get paid more then public skool teachers. The cons of being in public school is that the teachers often dont speak good english and dont know how to properly teach.

For elementary years, I went to a public school because during that time, my family move to a far away place and there is no nearby private school. The public transportation is difficult during those times. But when I am in high school and I know how to commute by myself, I transferred to a private school. Now that I have 2 children, I enrolled them in private (Catholic) school because not only that I wanted them to have the best education but because I want them to be closer to God and to be active in church. I did not consider home schooling because I would want their personality too to be developed plus to develop friendship with their classmates.

i have been studying in a private school... it is amazing to be in a school rather than being at home and studyin... we get to learn a lot in life.. even if u are looking at the cons of public school.. i feel every1 should go through this phase to see wht it is like.. it always teaches us a new lesson in our life.. the exposure is too good.. we also have a lot of friends.. who are the reason u want to go to school most of the time.. u get to meet many different type of people.. in my case i had studied in Dubai so there most of the people are from outside the country.. so i got to meet people of different culture.. and many nice people.. where as in home schooling.. we dont get to meet new people all the time.. and we would have less friends and the exposure of the world would be less.. we would not gain much knowledge as we get in public schools about life.. in my school days when the new year use to start.. the most exciting part was that there are going to be new students coming in the school and we can make more and more friends.. :) :) public/private schooling is way better than home schooling.. xD

First, I will say it is a personal choice and what one wishes for their kids. Except for one school, I've mostly attended private schools...and I have to admit that the year I was forced to attend public school, I did come across as 'stuck up'...but that changed with the one year I was at the public school. I have to say I learnt different things from public and private schools and both have its own set of pros and cons and it depends on which the parent thinks is right for the child. Having said that, my kids (now 10 and 4) attended a private school till a year and a half back. Both of them are now being home-schooled. This is mainly because our school system does not accomodate a special interest that the kids have. Our older son is musically inclined and our younger one is into sports. We want them to focus on that. Lack of communication with other kids on a daily basis (besides their friends in the apartment complex) is an issue but they get to meet people/children with similar interests as them (music/sports) on a daily basis. My husband and I feel that is much better for them than the mindless chatter and wrong choices that kids nowadays make. And I also want the kids to understand and appreciate that they might not always get what they want in life. Even when I was in private school, there were some aspects that I missed out on or felt I needed more importantly at the time. No one's fault...but that's the way it is.

I attended public school. However, during my sophomore, junior, and senior years I went to an alternative school. It was still through the public school system, it's just a more non traditional method of doing things. I guess you could say it's similar to home schooling, but I still had a teacher and had to meet with her once a week. I actually preferred this over "normal" schools and did very well. I loved this type of schooling and wished I could have had it from the start. And although it may not be for everyone, it was the best choice for me. The same can be said for other kids too. Just because one method of teaching works for some students doesn't mean it'll work for all, whether it be public schools, private schools, home schooling, etc. Happy mylotting!

I was a private school brat, since nursery to college i was in a private school lol but i was not really a brat my parents just believed that it was quality education they were giving me and honestly it was. But i also happened to realize that there are stuff that you just don't learn all in school - private or public. It does not matter if you came from private or public school, what matters is how they teach you, there are private schools that teaches bad and same for public as well.. i just got lucky because the teachers i had before were really really good but the ones i see now, since my son was enrolled last year in a private school and he was in nursery and i thought it was good but i realized it was not. It was good because he was pampered and the place was secure and it was clean and air conditioned but the way they teach was not good..it was mediocre and so i removed him there and did not enrol him there now. It was a big dilemma for me this time again as to where i will put him, we talked about it, me and hubby and still we enrolled him in a private school not the previous one, it was another school... because we want him secured but my daughter who is in second grade is in a public school,in a state university that offers primary education. Home school is also out of the question since i am busy with work and so's my hubby..we would rather enroll them in a school..

Of course I attended public school. Here in India people really doesn't support home schooling. And I don't have any kinda knowledge about home schooling so I will not mis-guide you by saying any PROS or CONS. But in case of public schooling ya there are many PROS n CONS PROS - Interactions with other students makes your behavior more open to other, You can easily get along with people, Public schooling degrees are acceptable in a wide range of society etc. CONS - You can get bullied now and then, In times you don't get the perfect teachings in midst of many students. etc

I attended and am currently attending a private school here in the Philippines. The private schools prices here are possibly about the same amount of tuition you pay in other countries like the US but can vary, some private schools are VERY expensive and some are relatively affordable. :] The public school system here isn't that good as well since you're cramped in a room that can barely fit how many students from what I heard about 50-100 and about each book(not brand new, occasionally with answers already, some ripped) is shared by 3 students. I believe going to a school is better than being home schooled. Last school year, I had a new classmate that was home schooled and let's just say she wasn't the brightest, no wait, sharpest pencil in the box. but then that was just one person, I can't really determine it using 1 person. Everyone is different after all. And also like you said, the friends! Ahhh, good times with them. and and also another you said, yeah! it also prepares you for the real world! being exposed to new things some rather odd, hahaha.

I personally attended public schools and did really well as I graduated with high honors. My children I raised in the parochial system, simply because when I had then I preferred The Catholic school system over the public school system in my area. It does not matter where and how they are educated as long as they are getting a good education is all that matters. If I could I would have home-schooled mine but I was working full-time and could not afford to do so without an income. It was very expensive the route I took with both of mine but I am very pleased with the choices I made. Mine have been exposed to the world but thankfully no issues to date. At the time it was my preference being that I was working and not been able to handle all that I saw while mine were growing up. Not saying it is better for anyone else but for me at the time seemed to be the right choice and since I was raising mine on my own it worked out for the best.

Eventually in life you will be exposed to things, you can be home schooled till college and one day it's gonna happen. I personally believe that people should go to public school, although i don't have a problem with people home schooling their children. The only con i can think of is the fact that public schools, like you said, teach us how to interact with others socially which would happen less often in a home schooling environment.

I agree =) I don't mind if people are home schooled, my cousins (7 of them) are home schooled & they're social cause they have their siblings but if you're by yourself then you won't be social as much.
