Mouthwash and my aching back!

Here's an eye opener for the 'boo-hoo my back hurts' people... An old guy that has trained race horses for years told me a secret... when he has a horse that has muscle strains or pulls he wets a towel.. in listerine or the generic mouthwash, applies it to the injured area, wraps it in plastic wrap to hold the liquid and heat in... I tried it on my back..have degenerative spine disease..so hurts all the time! Guess what...it actually helped! Add that tidbit to your first aid notebook.. Can't hurt and in my case it helped! oxoxxo

That's interesting! I wonder if it would work on shoulders and neck muscles. I'll have to try it the next time I have problems like that. I also wonder if it would help more if it was warmed up. I'll experiment!

I was just thinking about a sore shoulder problem I am having. I like using a lot of less toxic cures. It is worth trying and your details about the wash cloth and closed container were good.

I put it in a sprayer to repel flying insects. I have also heard that you can paint it on nails that have fungus, and if done consistently they will improve. It is the oil of thyme in it, I believe.

That is great information. Thanks a lot. I am 43 years old and I am starting to have back problems. I might just give this a try. Again, thanks.

I'm going to let my friends know about this, we're all well over 55 so we do get plenty of aches and pains.

omg that is a new ons on me. I have a lot of back pain for years'if that helps i will try it. do you have to use a whole bottle of the mouthwash to get a towel wet? and how long do you leave it on? does it help right away or does it take more that one time to do the trick...

Hi Hun I use a face cloth and dip it. A towel is used for a horse and that are much larger then us. I get mine mouthwash at a dollar store. It smells like listerine and seems to work the same. I pour it in a plastic container... where I can dip a cloth in and reseal the lid. I find it lasts a long time. Good luck oxxo

Wow. I didn't know that. I will have to try that sometime when my back is hurting me or try it on my husband if his hurts before mine does.

I can reach my mouth but... Can't imagine wearing a wet towel in a plastic wrap is going to feel that good while trying to sleep. There must be a better way.

Hi You don't have to sleep in it. I just wear it while I'm doing other things.. then take it off again. I leave it till it starts bugging me! lol oxxo
