Will you be traveling this summer?

With gas prices being at $4.29 per gallon this summer or higher in Indiana, I know that I will not be able to do a lot of traveling. I was hoping to take a trip to Virginia to visit family and I was hoping to take my daughter a couple of places this summer, but I don't think that it will happen. It seems that my husband is not concerned at all about the money that we need and he seems to be the person who doesn't care if we have income or not. I home school my daughter so it is hard for me to do everything else and work outside the home, but he told me today that I should get a job. Mind you that he is not currently working either and hasn't held an actual job for almost 8 years. He does do many odd jobs, but he doesn't work everyday or even every week. I guess I won't be traveling. Will you be taking a vacation this year?

I really wanted to try and take a vacation this year, but gas prices are having a great influence on that. It seems like a crazy waste of money. I will probably go to Indiana..but that is just because my b/f's family lives there and we haven't visited in almost a year. They are very close. If gas goes up much more, I might not even be doing that.

Well, I hope you get to visit his family. As you know I am in Indiana also.

We will be planning our usual trip up to Arkansas. The gas is going to be expensive but my boyfriends mother is sick so we have to find a way to get there. Usually we do go for a month, and since we are planning on moving there eventually we have to go this summer to sort things out.

Well, you will be traveling out of neccessity instead of out of just going for fun. I want to travel for fun but can't seem to find a way to afford it.

Yeah we have to find a way because she is sick but it also was our vacation for the year because in Arkansas we have done a lot of hiking, row boating, sailing, scuba diving, etc... While there it is always free to us but the traveling 14 hours via car and with the gas prices, wow, not sure we will continue to enjoy what we use to. I hope you get a chance to vacation this year.

As much as my husband and I would love to, I strongly doubt that we will travel, or go anywhere. We just really don't have the money to do it with. We would love to be able to travel and go somewhere, but reality is that we just don't have the means to do it with, at this point in time.

I am also thankful for the money that I earn online. I spend many late nights writing in order to make a few extra dollars that help with some of the expenses.

Money always seems to be an issue. I wish my husband and I could afford to travel this summer. He needs a mini vacation, but we cannot afford it. We realy need to do some serious remodeling this summer on our house. I am hoping that our tax return money will pay for most of the remodeling (the deck mostly). If need be I will work hard to make extra money online so I can afford to plant my garden. I am also doing a lot of painting and hope that the money I have will pay for this.

I won't be traveling this summer. I still have a lot of things I need to finish and I really can't go traveling around even if I want to. That's just too bad for me. Anyways, summer isn't the only time for travelling. I can travel when I'm free. But not on summer days. Hahaha! I just hope that day will come sooner and not later. :P

You are right that you can travel at anytime, but most people take their vacations during the summer.

It is sad when gas prices are stopping us from even traveling short distances.

We have a trip scheduled but I highly doubt that we will be going anywhere this year. Gas is too expensive and we just do not have the time to take off from work and cover the loss of pay.

Do you feel sad that you can't travel this year?

So if you get an outside paying job (you have 3 jobs, they just don't pay right now, wife, Mother, and home school teacher), is he gooing to home school her? Will she have to go to regular school? What's he going to do while you're working? I think you should tell him that he should get a job. I don't think I'll be taking a vacation this year, but one never knows.

My parents are going to spend their vacation in the north of Denmark and they have invited us to join them. I have to work most of the summer, but we plan on visiting my parents for two days. The rest of the summer I am going to work 7 days a week, it will be quite hard, so I know that I am really going to enjoy our mini vacation with my parents. I have been to the north of the Denmark several times as a tourist and in the past I lived there for some years, so I plan on showing my husband some of the places that I like in that area.

That would be so nice. It is sad that you will work seven days a week though. That doens't leave any spare time for fun.

We will be travelling this summer but it won't be nearly as much as a typical summer. Gas prices are just outrageous and really hard to keep up with. We're taking our annual beach vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Other than that though I'd imagine we'll only travel back "home" to visit our families once or twice. We typically would do this at least 3-4 times during the summer - for family reunions, picnics, etc. It's really unfortunate that those darn gas prices are ruining summer plans!

What is sad is that gas prices are starting to affect everything that we do. Have fun on your beach trip!

I wish my husband and I could take a vacation, but with our tax return check we decided to do some major remodeling instead. Our back deck needs major repair and we have decided to paint the bathrooms and then the kitchen. I am making extra money on here and also at a couple of other web sites so I can afford the paint. I know gas prices are getting to be rediculous and I wish prices would come down soon. I am sorry that your husband will not work and that he expects you to get a job. As a teacher who cannot find work and finds that the education system in the US is not great I can understand why you home school your daughter. She is getting a great education from you because you are able to work one on one with her.

She really needs the one on one also and I am really trying to help her catch up in the areas where she really is behind. He doesn't seem to understand how important that it is that I am home with her.

We will not be travelling either. The cost is too high, and my wife can take paid leave, but I can't. So, we won't be taking off any time or travelling very far. On the other subject, I would suggest to you that you tell your husband that working is not one-sided. While he does odd jobs, you home school a child, and teaching a little one is difficult... I give you massive kudos because I can barely have enough patience to help my daughter with her 1st grade homework, let alone teach her the subject matter.

It is sad that gas prices are so high that people can barely afford to go to work. I have tried to explain these things to him. I do write for several sites online also. Thanks for commenting on the fact that I homeschool as I find that it is a challenge but I have to do it as she struggles with many things.

I will travel this summer beacause this is the final vacation of my college life. But it still has some obstacles.Definitely, money is a problem,so we have to choose some nearby place. But if I could not travel, spending whole vacation at home with my family and my boyfriend is also a good choice.

It is nice that you can do a little traveling as I know that I won't be able too. I am hoping that some of my family will come to visit me.

I doubt it. I was planning to go with our sons to Vancouver, but they have other plans and do not have a car. I would have to take lessons that are expensive and then also buy a car. Cannot do both. The only way would be to take a plane and then that is expensive or take a tour bus. The only trips would be if I went with my friends to the nearest town and that would just be for the day or go to the nearest parks. So unless I have a rich uncle, I will ;have no vacation for this year or for some to come.

I love to travel overseas most of all. I took my disabled son and baby daughter to Colombia in January until February this year. Airfares are high so I tend to go when they are the lowest and there is still good weather. Where I went they have hot weather all year round. In my home country petrol costs are ever so high. I don't like to drive long distances and go around in my car within my county. If it is a longer journey then I go my train. I have got a Friends and Family railcard. I have booked a train ticket up to Yorkshire for a week in June. We have booked a cheap guest house. I would like to show my disabled son The Deep, a steam railway and an rainway museum. I would love to go to Robin Hood Bay. We will also be able to see Scarborough and Whitby. It is lovely that you home school your daughter. If you would like a cheap trip somewhere perhaps you could go camping by the sea or in the countryside. If you book train fare on-line you can find and get the lowest fares.

We are already done with our summer trip this summer. We have been planning this since last year when we got seat sale fares offered last quarter of last year. My family makes it a point to go on a local vacation once a year. It is our way of rewarding ourselves for working so hard for the year. It is our breather from the stress that we have to deal at work and it inspires us to work harder the next year. We usually bring our toddler son along. I feel that traveling is a good experience to learn about new places and cultures. I usually do my research online and visit some travel forums to get feedbacks on cheap accommodations and the must-see-places so I can plan our itinerary and save on fares. This way we are able to save up for our trip. One can really travel and but still don’t end up being broke.

i wish i could, besides that i am saving some my money for something, i have a very major exam soon. i will be taking my board exam for nurses soon so without money or with a lot money i am still not going to be able to go on vacation this summer yeah the gas is like one of the problems of everybody in this world

Lol. You husband sounds cool. Life is too short to stress, but hey we need people like you to keep people like him in check with reality. No traveling for me this summer, but not because of the gas. My buddies and I can always carpool, so together $4.29 is not much for us. But Wow $4.29? That is a lot of cash for just one person to take a cross country trip.
