Have you ever lived through a tornado or seen one from a distance?

I ask this because of the rash of tornadoes that hit the southeastern United States this past weekend, especially in Alabama. I vaguely remember when I was in kindergarten and there was a tornado about a block away from my school, but I don't remember much more, other than the teachers taking us to the lowest point in the school. What about you?

Does watching The Wizard of Oz count? Seriously, no, although we have had a few touch down here in the Sacramento area, I have never personally seen one. I"m just fine with that too!

It's so funny, though. I like studying them, but I don't want to see one in person. What kind of sense does that make?

I can understand being interested, but not wanting to get close enough to be in danger...

I haven't seen one ever and I have lived in a lot of different countries. It seems like an American only thing, doesn't it? Of course it can't be. But tornadoes do appear to be very rare in other countries. Perhaps they have different names elsewhere. Still, I'm glad that I don't live in America - I don't want to see one close up!

It's funny you should say that because I was thinking the exact same thing a few days ago. We're the only country that seems to be vulnerable to this weather.
Darn tornadoes.

Well I have seen a really small one in front of me. But a destructive one maybe just once.
I haven't really experienced tornadoes as a threat.

That's good to hear.
I don't remember much about the one that came near my preschool--all I know is that it was pitch-black outside.
