What is success?

It's been a while since I came back and checked this site that I almost forgot about it. I was just going to bed when my brother asked me a question that reminded me of myLot. Pretty funny, I can't sleep after that...so I'm here to write something that bothers my sleep.
I hear many people who are very successful in life. They've got a business that gives them a lot of money, a very big house, a very nice looking car, a celebrity life, the time of their life -- as if they're not working at all -- and all good you can ever think of as to what paradise is like.
But what is success, truly? Does it mean that you'll achieve happiness once you have a huge amount of money? Will a successful life give you a lot of time for your family? Does success give you the space you need to attend something that is very important to you? Does a successful business give you what you're looking for? I've seen people who are very successful -- according to magazines and news -- but lead a life full of scandals and have their life viewed upon with criticisms. There are those people too, who have successful businesses but have lots of family problems and issues. There are people who are successful in helping others, but cannot help those who are important for them.
Really...what is success?

For me success means contentment and happiness.
Even if you don't have so much money, if you have a wonderful, happy and intact family, you are a success. When peace and love abounds in a family, that is success. Success is primarily happiness to me.
So, i can say i am a successful person!

Success is having an improvement to your life without hurting the feelings of the other.. Success can't measure on the things you attain, but it is all about what you did for others. Sometimes people think that success is only just for them self but it is also about others.

I think a success life is not just depend on how rich you are, whether the family is happiness or not is most important too. That direct impact your everyday's feeling.
Put my boss as an example, he is success due to have these wealth and good fame in his 35 years age. but, he didn't a harmonious family that he and his wife are incompatibility for some reasons, and he is unwillingness to go home every day after working...
I think he is so pity. every people have emotions, and didn't have a person who can sticks through thick and thin is the best thing. from the means of life, he isn't success.
in my opinion, have some money not large is enough, have a happiness is the most successful thing in one's life

It probably means different things for different people, but for me it means having enough to get by, and being happy and healthy.

Happiness is success. If a person is truly happy, they are successful. It does not matter how much money they have, what they do for a living, where they live, or what they wear.
People can have all that and still not be happy. That doesn't sound like they've really achieved much of anything to me. What is life if we aren't happy?

Success is achieving the goals you set for yourself, whatever they are, regardless of how anyone else measures it.

When I think of success, I think of happiness. As long as I'm a happy individual with my life, then I feel like I am successful in my eyes. In my opinion it goes way beyond career, lifestyle, and material items.

Success is being contented and having peace of mind with what you have and being able to give thanks for every day you get an opportunity to become a blessing or inspiration to your fellow men... ^^

Success to me means to get where you want to be in life by having dreams and goals and setting your mind on them.

This is a very good question you raise, and a difficult one too. I believe that, sure people can be viewed upon as successful within this society by being rich and famous, but, take yourself out of that society, and what do you have? Take yourself out of the society that uses the money you have so much of, and what do you have? Success is something you have acheived that has meaning to you, and nobody else, that has more value than money can put on it, its a personal goal that can only relate to you. You may see what you have done a success, whereas others wont. Success has a different meaning to different people for different things, unfortunately, most of them relate to having lots of money.
