Friends. Do you think i am being wise when i buy toiletries in bulk when they are on "buy one take one sale" or do you think i am being impulsive?
To those who live in the Philippines, they come up with buy-one-take-ones in Watsons. Theres this Oil of Olay Body Wash that i really really like and i took one of each kind. I felt that it would take some time again when they put up sales like these.
Do you think i had been impulsive? I bought in bulk for 2 reasons, first, is because it is very cheap and i honestly think that it is a good buy and second, i dont want to pass by Watsons often because i was trying to be thrifty.
What do you think?

So you see, those buy one take one offers makes you buy on impulse. The catch of having to save a few pesos will really entice you to buy it , even if it was out of the budget.
However, if you have lots of extra money, then why not? At least you were able to save a few pesos when you bought it.

Anytime I see a buy on get one I snag it. If this is everyday products that you use all the time why not buy it? That is like buying it half off and you can't beat that.

HiGraceekwenx.
For me, buying necessities is not being impulsive. For me, if I see things I need selling in sale stands, I would grab the opportunity, but of course, not to compromise the quality as well. You're right, here in the Philippines, they usually put things in sale. It's up to us if we think we have to take them in bulk. Like toiletries, we can never ignore to have them, it's necessities, so nothing wrong to buy in bulk. If we think we need things, don't think it's impulsiveness. Buying things for the reason of cost but never because we need them, is being impulsive. I will do the same as you if I do have the money to have them, sale time is also an economical way for us to have our needs. Happy mylotting.

Grace beta
It is not only in your country but here too, it is kind of technique adopted for stock clearence of products whose expiry date is approaching, another thing we see such offers in big bazzar on weekend etc, you can see people in large numbers as if things are given TOTALLY FREE
Thanks for sharing
Cheers.
God bless you, have a nice day ahead.

I do the same thing but if it goes beyond super hoarding category then do curb your enthusiastic shopping.I do buy tissues by 1 whole pack of 6 or lotions and or hand wash but I keep it to a minimum. You will know if you have gone overboard if you see loads of them in your cabinet.

I don't think that you have been impulsive. If i have the money i would have done the same thing. They make offers like that because it can really attract consumers. If you think its a good product then you need not to feel guilty about it. When i encounter buy one take one i usually stops then think "do i really need this?" It helps a lot when I'm trying to save money. :)

If I really liked the product, and it would get used before it spoiled (like if it was a food item), I'd do it.

hello grace,
As long those items can be stocked why not.
It's not being impulsive those things are usable anyway.
Some people keep buying things that they really don't need, and just buy those things for display.
It's fine,it's their money but they can still use those money for more important things of could be shared to less unfortunate ones rather than buying things for displays.
I also buy toiletries in bulk in "japan home" because it's very cheap, and i don't go to malls that often.
have a great weekend ahead

There are two things apparent in your question.
First you are trying to be thrifty. That leads me to think that perhaps you coud not afford to spend your money on these items or is it that you already have a cupboard full of body oils?
The second thing that shines through is that this is an offer that does not often come round often and it really is a bargain.
A bargain is a bargain if you can afford to buy these items and that you will be using them in the future.
On the whole I would say you are being wise if you have the money to purchase them now. Firstly they are on offer and will save you paying more in the future.
Secondly, you will be saving money in the future because you will not have to buy them at a higher price.
It all comes down to what you can afford now, if you do not have the money then it is not a bargain because you are basically borrowing money from future earnings which will have to be paid back somehow. This is especially true if you are using a credit card for the purchase. The interest on the credit card could potentially wipe out any savings made now by the interest that has to be paid later.

Here in Illinois they also have such sales they call them BOGO, Buy one get one. I always find that very useful because not only do I have extra on hand but also because when they are not on sale I am not paying the extra amounts.
So no, not being thrifty more like a smart shopper. So as long as they are products we at some point are going to buy anyways, why not do so while they are at such a bargain.
So you have done great!

nah, buying that pretty little earrings that caught your eye when you already have way too much earrings is buying impulsively, speaking for myself...
I'm all for it too since it's actually something you could use mostly everyday...now, your not an impulsive buyer and don't worry about being an impulsive buyer, I am an impulsive buyer...it's fun though you could go home, unpack the things you've bought and wonder why you bought them in the first place and it's a really a budget bender!!!

After all, if the price is right, it is a bargain that you should take especially if it is a rare sale. Of course, the item should have been in your usual shopping list otherwise it would be a waste of money, impulsive buying at work. Another benefit may be if you have sufficient stock of stuff at home, you don't need to visit the shop so often and be tempted to buy impulsive at there.

Hi Grace, I am sure you did the right thing. I never miss any sale at the nearest shopping centre. It's good to buy things that you need in bulk so that you save on them. I don't think you were impulsive because nobody would want to miss Sale.

I would have done the same thing if I were you... I don't think it's impulsive, as long as you know it's something you need (or something you'll be needing pretty soon in the future) ... I think impulsive would be buying something you won't be using or something not that important when you can't really afford to spend on something like it.... anyway as long as the products serve a good purpose, it won't be wasted. so shouldn't feel too sorry for buying it.
