I have felt so sleepy at work about two days ago... i was asked to study some policies and well after reading through a couple of these documents by afternoon, i was already sooo sleepy and i could not help my eyes because they kept on shutting by themselves.
what i did was to drink a cup of coffee but it did not help. i felt sooo sleepy somehow until i have given up and took a nap just so i won't feel so sleepy.
have you ever been in the situation and you can't help feeling so sleepy? what do you usually do if this happens to you suddenly?

Yes, I have at times felt very sleepy at work, particularly if I have been ill for a while and not working. I am fortunate because I have always worked for myself. The problem with that is, that if I take too much time off, I won't get money, so I have to get past feeling sleepy and carry on with my job! _Derek

Hi there. Unexpected usually happens. I just admire you for having the courage to take a nap during office hours or maybe you used strategy in doing so that you did not mention in your story.
Well for me, I also had an experience like you. And it's really uncontrollable. I remember then that I acted like I had a severe stomach ache and someone advised to stay in a room to rest for a couple of minutes. I was expecting that, so I took the chance to take a nap. Atleast, if someone would find me there, they would know that Í'm not feeling well and not just so sleepy. But of course, I did not take advantage of that, when I had it for 20 minutes, I got back to work. And it worked. It's really the saying that "there's no medicine for sleepyness but take time to sleep or nap to get rid of it". If you have to do it, better let them know the situation rather they caught you that might put you in trouble. They will surely understand.

Those are the days when the work day comes to no good. When you find yourself sleepy on the job, consequences are sure to follow. It isn't a good habit to fall into, but sometimes other circumstances throw an obstacle in your way that you do not see coming.

I work the night shift, so I feel sleepy at work all the time. I actually fell asleep while on my break a couple of nights ago, but this is not an uncommon occurrence where I work. We are accustomed to having to wake each other up when it is time to go back to work. I just hope there isn't a night when ALL of us fall asleep at the same time and there is no one awake to wake us up when the time comes. LOL

I wonder when you take a nap, did your boss know it?
I will request for leave instead of spending sleepy time in the office. However, try to sleep enough so that you recharge yourself before go to work.

It happenns to me too. I was so sleepy that I can no longer stare and the monitor or the documents. I just can't focus on my work. Usually I will take a walk around the office, be it to the toilet, pantry or the photocopy machine. Sometimes I will take a power nap during lunch hour.
Cheers.

I always caught myself in that situation. I have this 9 o'clock sleeping habit during my work. When the clock hit that time, oh my, my eyes begun to shut. I would just sit unmoving as if I was doing my job but I was really sleeping.
That situation embarrass me much daily. So I tried to develop a sleeping habit and watch my diet. If my work is 9 to 5, I made sure that I had slept 8 to 10 hours the night before. I need to have a good breakfast so I can work conveniently.
I also take a siesta.

It's the same for me too, sometimes. I work as a programmer, and you see, programming is all about reading long lines of code at the screen, and believe me that some debugging seasons become really really boring and sleepy. I just try to stay relaxed a few minutes and then go back. Many times is greatly helps to awake me again a small conversation of some kind, like when a teammate ask me something or a phone call. Or take 5 minutes and go outside. Whatever relieves you from the long reading seasons.

It does happen to me at least once in a week. Sometimes having a hearty lunch and the temperature at the office makes me so sleepy specially around 2-3 in the afternoon. It is hard keeping my eyes open. We do have a quiet room for anyone who wants to doze off and there is a la-z-boy waiting for you there. But I never went and avail of it since I might not wake up and eventually sleep. Besides, it takes off some time in my clock and I don't want to delay my going home.
When I am sleepy I try to surf something on the internet that I really find interesting and awaken my senses. But most of the time,I am here at Mylot to keep away from boredom and sleepiness. Sometimes, I find my friends and we just chat and I don't feel sleepy anymore.

when i was in college, i would fall asleep during our duty at the hospital from 12 midnight to 8 in the morning, the grave yard shift. good thing one time that fall asleep, the supervisor who caught me wasn't so strict. it was kind of embarrassing when i woke up because my classmates told me that the supervisor was even trying to take my shoes off hahahah but then i didn't feel it, i was having a deep, good nap and what's more embarrassing and pretty funny was, when i woke up they're all like "3 drops per minute" and i ask what do you mean by that? and they replied, "look down".................... HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i was drooling my saliva on the floor hahahah!!!
and when i was working at this call center, (grave yard shift), i wanted to sleep but i couldn't, we had a quota to reach every hour

Hi chiyosan!
I usually feel sleepy early in the afternoon when I'm not doing something. Sometimes I feel sleepy right after I ate my lunch. It's okay if that's the case because I'm free to take a nap during lunch break 12-1. But it's frustrating when I feel the sleepiness after the lunch break since I can't take a nap during that time. Sometimes I take a nap even though it's office hours but only when I'm alone and my boss is not in the office.^^ And I always wake up immediately when someone enters the door. It's like an alarm clock. LOL Coffee doesn't help. Sometimes I think it makes me sleepy more.^^
But when I'm busy, I can't feel any sleepiness at all.^^
Cheers.

My job is not that exciting but seldom do I feel sleepy at work. I am alot older than most of my co-workers and usually have more energy than all of them and most of the time they are always complaining how tired they are. I don't remember being that tired when I was their age.

i made a mistake of taking a cold medicine before going to work and it was not the non-drowsy type and my head was bobbing all over the place because i was so sleepy. i drank a can of soda for its caffeine content but that also didn't work, my officemate suggested that i pluck my eyebrows so i did. that worked better than soda.;)

It happened to me often.
I try to prevent it by eating less at lunch, and possibly eating some fruit in the middle of the afternoon, after the 'sleeping phase'.
When I'm about to falling asleep I take a walk to the bathroom, I wash my face, I drink some fresh water.
If you can't wash your face because you use make up, you can try to wash your wrists with very cold water.
Cheers

for me, the way to combat sleepy during work is to pinch my stomach so that when i feel pain as to my control, the feeling of sleepy is lost, i try this several times but it is really effective.... sometimes i get a drops of water to put into my eyes and it is also effective, but i do not know if it has a side effect to it.
