I just saw this job posted on Freelancer.com.
"Hi,
I want someone to convert a pack of PDF files to word document. I want serious bidder. First you have to buy the pack. It is very confidential so I cannot give it to any one who is not serious.
The package cost is $10 (refundable).
You will get exactly 100 PDF files. The word count for each file is around 400. You have to manually type the contents of the PDF files in to word document and save the file name with exactly the same name used for the PDF files.
All the files are password protected. So you cannot use any software to complete the job (sorry for that). You have to manually do this.
You know well the maximum amount that I can pay. The time limit is 25 days.
After you buy the pack you have complete the job in 25 days. Don't worry I will pay back $10 that you have used to buy the pack.
Happy bidding."
What does it look like to you? Are you willing to bid for this job? I definitely won't. One look at it will tell you that this is a scam. And people are still bidding on this job. I guess these people either did not read the description or they are definitely desperate for a job.

yes it would seem they are desperate for a job. I mean why would you have to buy the pack and then they give you the money back? that makes no sense and plus there is over 100 files, you should be getting more then $10 for it. I know I wouldn't waste my time on that.

Neither would I, Tammy. He probably state the 100 files to attract more bidders and to assure them that there will be lots of work to do.
I wonder how they can think of such a thing to do. Don't they feel any shame at all posting such thing and cheating people of their money?

some people have no conscience at all. i know I would never do that, no matter how hard up I get for money. I have more respect for myself and everyone else.

It is not impossible to remove password protection from PDF files, even if the password has been lost. If someone really does need something typed out, then they should deliver the material free to the successful bidder. Asking people to buy the package, even with the promise of refunding it, sounds like a scam to me.
