Triond's Got Its May Challenge!

Philippines
May 6, 2011 10:48am CST
Triond just announced their May challenge, where everything will be based on quality of posts, which will be gauged on how many minutes your reader will stay on your page. If I understand it right, to be able to have (or win) $5, you must be in their top content. Personally I like the idea of focusing on quality of article rather than quantity, but the way Triond pulls out its challenge is not in conform with my taste. I have a feeling that not everyone will be given equal share / equal opportunity to join. How about you? Share your thoughts, please.

Hi MspatriciaDV, the May challenge is very stupid. I think those Triond employees do not even know how seo works! For those quality articles in health, business and other niches, search engines do not index and place the content in the top page easily. Writers need to get more backlinks in order for the articles to rank at the top. However, celebrities gossips, especially fake gossips, definitely reach the top page in just a few hours. The top content list (the old one) is a list of really quality content. However, the new hot content list is a disaster.

I've checked the full list of Top / Hot content in triond, and basically everything are hoax articles! Shame on them, they don't know how responsible writing is.

Total time spent on reading an article is not a very good way to judge an article for quality. I would rather Triond have the other challenges be brought back. The same articles that are on the hot content list(which are garbage, celebrity gossip, facebook dribble, etc) will just be the winners, and they, as I said before, are not quality articles. They just pull in a lot of readers. Plus, it seems like this challenge can be easily cheated on- telling people to just stare at your article, or put it on and walk away......

You are right, and I am happy we share the same thoughts. Hope triond will have a better idea on this quality thing. This makes me feel lazy writing there.

I have not written for Triond for a terribly long time that they sent me an email to remind me that they are still around. Anyway, I did take a look at this May challenge and it did not excite me one bit. Since the result is something beyond writers' control, it is more like a competition rather than a challenge to encourage us to write. So I think I'll pass.

I don't think I will be participating in Triond's latest challenge. The criteria for quality that Triond is proposing is so stupid. Length of time spent on an article? What's that all about?

OOooh! That's interesting. Although I am no longer very active of triond, I still try to submit some of my articles there for the sake of saying I am still active in it. Hahaha! Thanks for the information about triond. It's been some time since my last visit there. Will be checking the site out later. :]

The challenge is over now and many have been rewarded. After seing many discussion in MyLot about the May challenge, not many people interested. And many don't even care if they are qualified or not. It just the way they select the quality article are not highly agreed by many of its users. We cannot tell quality by depend on how much time people spend on the article. It just ridiculous. I myself just submit 2 post for month of May and not even 1 qualified and I don't care much about it. And the article which are qualified in the top article mostly rubbish. Rubbish, rubbish and more rubbish. There are just no information we can get there.

I think it is sound to pursue such a challenge, but the way they propose it is way too easy to cheat and not fair to short but quality post. There is a lot of nonsense written no doubt. But to judge on the quality of an article solely on the amount of minutes readers leave it open is wrong. It would be much better if they just would check out those articles that had a certain number of visits over a certain period of time and judge it a score. Then the best articles would be rewarded.
