Ok Musicians...Which Is First

Ok...I have been a musician for many years and have written many songs. When I write a song sometimes it is inspired by words that I have heard or felt and sometimes for some reason I get some catchy melody tune stuck in my head. But mostly I start with lyrics then music.
Do you write your music...lyrics first or music first?

I have always wondered how musicians create such unique music to their songs and seriously I don't have the answers till now. I have always had interest in music but never wrote songs. I used to write poems though, but that was years ago. Sorry this response is so away from what you asked.

Thx thatgirl...Alot of what I have written starts as a poem. I believe a poem is a song without music.

how i wish i had a talent like yours. no, i have never made my own music ever but i always love listening to songs especially those mellow and with beautiful touching lyrics. sometimes i get to relate to the song with my experience and it gets very touching.
i wish i could write my song too.

My wife said she could not write lyrics, yet whenever I was stumped, who did I go to...she would sometimes see a whole different spin on what I was trying to express. And viola!, a song was born.

Well I don't really write music, but I'd love to someday. Anyway I watched a movie about a composer and a band and as what I have observed, he writes the tune first and then the lyrics comes next. The composer was a Korean I guess. But I think you should just do what suits you. Have fun writing more music. :)

For me, I would start off with lyrics. I guess its the most important part, there are many celebrities singers who now write songs that are really noisy - which the lyrics has no meaning at all.
First- Lyrics
2nd - Start thinking of the melody and tune etc.. (How the music should go)
