Are your Facebook friends your REAL friends?

Like any other social networks, we at Facebook have "friends". The "friends" term has been widely used since the social networking was born and until now works well and is generally understood by everyone.
However, there is reason to believe that the "friendship" there is in Facebook - or any other social networking site - is not a hundred percent real relative to what true friends really mean.
In my Facebook for instance, I have around 600 friends but I believe only about two-thirds of those members are my real friends. Some are just acquaintances and friends of friends.
How about you?

Same here. I have around 400+ friends but not all of them are my real friends. It's fine with me though as long as I know them. I have a lot of pending friend requests from people I don't know. I just hope it's not my memory failing me. There are times that I simply don't remember meeting them. So, I'd give it ample time and ask around 'till I'm satisfied before accepting them.

Not all of them are real friends. Some are friends that I have met from game applications that I usually play. I keep my privacy settings in order for my family and close friends to see.

Most of them yes, my friends. The rest of them are just my friends of my friends. That is such a huge number. I don't have 600 friends in my Facebook as I don't think it is important to have such a big number of friends in my account. You must be a popular person huh??

Hi there vesuvius!!!
To be honest I only have few friends in facebook. Its becoz most of them are only my classmates and some of them are relatives. When I created my facebook account I have decided to only let those people who i personally know be friend in facbook.
It is hard if you always add into your friends list those people whom you don't know personally and you don't have any connection with.I want to protect my privacy so i am not accepting all of the friend requests that i am receiving in facebook.

Well, half of them are, and the others are my friends' friends. Sometimes, facebook make me know other people and finally I can know them even in the real life.

some people who add me on facebook are people i would sometimes see in malls, but they don't even bother to say hi or even just look at me, so why the heck they would even add me up! ugh.

I would say 90% of the people that are my "friends" on facebook are people that i have known for more then 10 years. most of my friends on facebook are my family. but my friends are my true friends. there are a few that i met online and i can honestly say that we are friends. I would invite them to my home if they were ever in town

Hi vesuvius!
Yeah, like you, not all of my friends in Facebook are my real-life friends. Although most of them are my real-life acquaintances. Many are from my college years, some are from my high school and elementary years, and some are from my work. Those that are not my real-life friends/acquaintances, or those who I met in the net and have not met personally are my neighbors in Farmville.^^ I also have remaining few clanmates in Vampire Wars although I don't play that game anymore. Some were my Sorority Life members and although I don't play that game anymore, some of them are still in my Facebook because we are also neighbors in Farmville.^^
Cheers.

A few of them are. But not really. I know two females that are good friends of mines and I hardly ever talk to them. I may "like' something that they have said though. Not all my Facebook friends are my REAL friends. Most of them don't talk to me as much.

In my account, my friends are mostly my relatives. I really intended to limit it to my relatives and few close friends. You see i still want to maintain privacy though i realize that it is not possible anymore because my relatives have other friends too. But i see to it that the information i post are safe for everyone's indulgence.

not all of them. i am trying to be very careful because we never know who spies on us. my sister's account has been hacked and good thing she was able to retrieve it right away. i make a list for those i block from my wall posts and pictures. i add some acquaintances and some friends and relatives. some i would ignore and some i would block.

Well some of them are my real friends and relatives, some are acquaintances and school mates or friends of my friends, some are acquaintances, some are people i admire, some people i absolutely don't know, and some are strangers who admire me? Hahaha.. LOL.

All of my facebook friends are my real friends. Mostly a former classmate, family, co-worker or just plain friends. I don't add up people whom I haven't met or know personally. I usually update my facebook friends, I deleted those people whom I just accepted their friend request since we have a lot of common friends. I'm not trying to be snob, I just considered that fact that facebook is having some security issue.

I guess I can brag that all of my friends on Facebook are my real time friends. I get a lot and a ton of friend requests from people I know and people I often associate with but not exactly people that I consider friends. I try to keep my true friends in Facebook because that is the purpose of the site. Though networking is a popular trend today, I still have the old-fashioned notion of friendship, not the commercial or shallow friendship. I have a thing about people - I don't exactly mingle with strangers easily.
Many people complained to me about this action but I don't regret it. I simply said that the friends that I have today stuck by me through the good and the hard times and I owe it to them to annoy them when I'm online. Besides, some people come and go, these friends never did. Some of them gave me good advice and some aren't exactly nice but but they give you wisdom than any amount of books you have or read.
In this age of fast technology, I don't aim to have fast friends. I want to be connect with friends and feel their company when though its aided by a machine. I don't want to include making friends into the same category of trivial activity like changing my lingerie. If a day such come, I'll sue Facebook and they will rue the day that they created this website.

I don't think I know all my friends on Facebook. Most of them are games friends. I only communicate or chat with a few of them but the rest just add me cause they need me to be their neighbours in their games or they want me in their mafias.

I think only one 4th of them are my real friends. Haha. Most of them are acquaintances, even my teachers! And some are my game-friends. I really appreciate the feature in FB where you can make lists of your friends. That way, I can categorize my real friends, and I can appear offline to my other FB friends. :P
