Birthday party for 21 years or NOT?

I am turning 21 in the beginning of June this year. Many of my friends are have a party to celebrate their 21th birthday. It is now already May and i have yet to decide whether I should hold a birthday celebration or not.
A part of me would like to have a party celebration on a yacht and my parents have agreed because it is quite special but another part of me finds it quite troublesome plus i have been lazy to book the place etc. I wonder if they still have place in the beginning of June.
What do you think? Do i hold a party for my 21th birthday or just let it be a normal birthday just like any other year?

Definitely, it gives me a chance to meet up with friends whom I have not met for a long time. My parents are willing to sponsor me with the money, but i after that they will make me feel that i owed it to them. And this is one of my consideration point.

Indeed, i am unable to vote this year. Are you living in singapore like me? I would want to play my part for Singapore in the next GE.
Yes, 21 birthday is a once only thing!

At first, please excuse me that I dont know so much about the cultures of yours,in my opinion,u should always do the things which can make u happy.and listen to ur heart says,a experience i wanna share with u,if u expect a future then u have 50% chance to disappoint,I came from China,in our county,at birthday we only invite our closest friends.then best wishes for u!

it means if u expect something u like it very much comes up,then there is 50% chance to make u disappiont, and 50% to make u satisfaction. So I dont like expect something, this can make me always feel fresh :)

I am from Singapore. Yes, I should definitely listen to my heart and do things that make me happy.
But perhaps you can explain what you mean by if i expect a future then i have 50% chance to disappoint?
I find inviting close friends is better than inviting make people, it seems like I am putting up a show!

Why not go for it,it's one kind of experience that you will somehow missed once you were married and having some kids.
Or if you want some changed...why not celebrate your birthday to an orphanage where you can share some happiness to those less fortunate.
have a great day

You have a nice suggestion. However, in Singapore, we don't have orphanage here, not to my knowledge. There was once I wanted to donate some old clothings to an orphanage, but I found non.
Yes, once I get married, I will have a different life and it would be very difficult for me to have fun then. Guess I should have my fun now!

This is a milestone in your life and normally any girl would simply look forward to celebrating it. The joy lies is organising any event but you seem to think it to be a burden of sorts. If you are not enjoying making the arrangements then I don't think you should go for it.

You really hit my point. I find myself burdened with lots of many many things. You made me though real through and realise that if this is not what i really want, then no point making a celebration because ultimately I will not enjoy it.
One consideration factor is money, although my parents are willing to sponsor for this party, they will make me feel that I owed it to them that I have such a luxury party and then will after that show some faces etc.
I don't really like this feeling. Although being 21 is indeed a milestone, but if I have a tinge of not wanting to celebrate, then i should not do it just for the sake because every one else is having one.

If it is already hard for you to book on any place then it is better to stick on a decision to have birthday party on yacht. At least you have another option. It is already May so I don't think it is that easy to book for a place when usually you are suppose to do that 1 year before your event itself. I don't know there in Singapore but here in Manila it usually happens because of the reservation.

It depends on the venue but most likely if that is big event such as weddings, debut and baptismal even the children's party of birthday people must be really have a reservation as early as possible to get that place. Here in the Philippines it is also our tradition to celebrate the special birthday when you are 18th for the ladies then 21 for males though it depends. I haven't attended any special birthday occasion for males. I am already 27 so I celebrated my 18th birthday 10 years ago already. It was not well planned as well and in fact my birthday was October 18 but then I celebrated it for about November 10 already. Which was really far but then it is because I didn't do that as early as possible it was already 4-5 months before the event. So I decided to move the date so that I could be ready. I didn't do the traditional debut like there will be 18 roses and candles instead I made it like children's party that has games then instead that I was the one who was dancing my classmates were the one who dance the Lady Marmalade. My theme was Tweety Bird. Even my prizes and give aways are about Tweety as well. I am not a so much lady type person so I don't like wearing gown instead it was just a simple violet dress.

Wah. Your celebration was really far apart from your real birthday. Was the celebration still meaningful to you?
It's nice to have a theme. I believe your party was fun, it sure sounds very fun. We don't have to follow other like 18 roses and candles, as long as you are happy, that's the way.
I believe you had fun during your birthday celebration. The thing about me is i'm quite lazy to do all the preparation stuff. I going to attend my friends 21st birthday celebration on sat and she has a theme where we are supposed to dress from someone in the movies.
My mum had just confirmed with me whether i wanted a celebration or not. She asked me to give her the answer by tonight because there is really no more time left. How???

Yes, It's already mid May now, and my birthday is on the beginning of June. Guess it's really tooo late. You have to book one year in advance in Manila? THat's really far ahead. I think one year ago, i was still not concerned about this coming birthday!
Are you already 21? How did you celebrate it or how you plan to do so?

Advance HAPPY 21ST BIRTHDAY! If you have monies to spend on your special day why not hold a party to celebrate since it is once a year occasion but if not be practical and have a normal birthday.

I'm turning twenty one in June too! Mid-June to be exact and I don't know, everyone that I know makes a huge deal about turning 21 but I'm not a drinker, smoker, clubbing type of girl. I might just have dinner with my friends and that's probably it.
Many people go out and rent hotels, or go to Las Vegas but it's up to you :) I say if you can, celebrate it!
Happy Early Birthday :)

Yeah! we have the same birthday month!
Yes, everyone around me seem to be making a very big deal out of their 21 birthday. It seems to be a big thing and that was what made me think whether i should hold a huge celebration too.
However, i do find the whole process a little of a trouble and just wondering if i should just celebrate with a small but close group of friends

I have always had my birthday party, every year. And I plan to do so for a long time . I love such parties coz that is the time when I get to hang out with friends and family at the same time.
I think you should hold the party coz you can have warm memories of your 21st. But yeah actually you shouldn't listen to anyone and do what you think is right. After all it's your day. Anyway enjoy!!

Wow, you have birthday party every year! For me, after my 12 birthday, i rarely have a celebration with a lot of people because i always feel embarrassed when they sing me the birthday song.
I do love parties to. But sometimes, i get lazy because it gets quite tiring after that! But you are right, I believe i would want to have a warm memory of this special day.
Thank you for your advise.

Wow! Dream, 21st... You must party hard, dude... Sorry for the language but you must enjoy to the fullest because it's your 21st. My 21st is coming this November, i have so many plans for it! I might be partying the entire week. Yatch seems to be a good idea...Booking a place won't be bad either. Get together with your friends and work on your venue for the party asap!
Have a blast!

Every birthday celebration is much important. If you're really interested then Go for it. I'm 21 but I never had a happy birthday because it is always me who always treat my friends. I want my friends to treat me or I want them to organize a party for me.
