Went to my favorite nursery near my daughters hous, 45 miles away, and bought just a few plants for my finilization of gardening. This photo shows 3 tomato plants. On the top of the photo is a beefsteak tomato plant. Large fruits weighing between 5 and 9 ounces and very juicy. Tiny one on the right side is a yellow pear tomato. Self explanatory really. Small fruits about the size of medium strawberries and pear shaped. The last one on the left center is an Early girl. Called that as they bloom a lot earlier than most other varieties of tomatoes. What's your favorite type of tomato? Mine would be the yellow pear. Tried it last year and am now hooked on them as a munchy type snack.

I guess I prefer the old fashioned tomatos, big, not so perfect but picked ripe from the plant. When I was a young girl, I used to clean them on my jeans and bite them where the plants were. Those were other times and my parents had a nice house in the country, besides the town house.

Nothing tastes better than fresh veggies/fruits grown by yourself.
I eat them right off the vine as well.

Next Spring I will also plant more tomatos. Last year I thought I had planted too many, until the tomatos started to rippen.

These are my favorite, the big red bubba kind. Just this last Sunday, Mothers Day, we planted 18 plants. Last year I planted 10 and we ate them as they rippened right off the vine, so this year I had to plant more.

wow, your plants are all so big! I think I saw you are in the southern US? I'm in England and we had a frost last week - it nipped the tops of my potato plants! So I won't be planting my tender plants out for a while yet. The tomatoes don't go out at all - they stay in growbags in the greenhouse, or I find they just don't ripen.
My favourite is Gardener's Delight which is just a little bit bigger than a cherry tomato and loves our conditions. I don't know if we would have the same varieties as you or if they tend to be different. I've certainly never seen a yellow pear tomato :)

Nope, I am in Northern USA in Minnesota. We have frost and snow up until mid May at times so I buy a lot of my veggies as plants and not plant by seeds. Seems we do have different varieties of tomatoes.

There's only 3 aduklts in my household and only 2 eat here most the time so 16 would be WAY too many for me. Heck, the 4 I have will be too many.

Romas are best for making salsa or tomato paste.

I like the beefsteak mainly for putting on burgers grilled outside.
I don't care for them in salads etc though.

Hi Grandpa Bob,
Hope you had a great weekend and from the look of the picture you are one busy bee. You will have lots of tomatoes, gosh you can make salsa - spicy or not. Enjoy then in salads and or the snacks.
Gosh you really enjoy gardening and seem to be so good at it. Have fun and hope all goes well.
I am imagining your grand daughter walking around the sprouting veggies in amazement. How fun is that.
