I have no experience with the Jack Russell Terrier breed, but I'd like to suggest you another breed, which I'm really happy about is the Labrador Retriever! Labrador Retriever is both cute, intelligent, very playful and also really good at hunting. They actually have one of the best smell sense of all dogs. And may I suggest you to go training with the dog, on huntings and other noisy activities, because that makes the dog more accustomed to loud noises, so that it won't be scared. I've had two Labrador Retrievers total, and one of them now. They've both been trained, since they were puppies, and you should train / play with them all in their entire life, both the smell, actions and so on. In my opinion, I do have the World's best dog!

Just a note, the Labrador Retriever is the small breed of the Labrador breed. The Labrador Retriever breed is actually often called a Formel 1, because of the small and fast properties.

Terriers are called terriers for a reason, like all terriers Jack Russells can be aggressive and fierce but a dog is largely what you make it. The original Jack Russell Terriers are indeed small dogs, these are known as Parson's Jack Russells but lately people have started to breed them with longer legs so they are more like a Fox Terrier. all the best urban

Old Jack Russells can be very affectionate, quiet and loving dogs. But the young ones... look out! They bite, chew and hump every leg that comes close. Oh my, they sure need a good trainer! I would not recommend them unless you have plenty of experience with dog training. They are bred to catch rabbits in their burrows, and often get stuck underground. So if you live in the countryside, be sure to have a spade handy. If you have more will-power than the dog, you will after a very long time have an obedient, faithful dog.

Hello, I had a Jack Russell and they are excellent dogs. But keep in mind most of them want to be the only dog. They don't like competition. And they are best suited for a single owner. Very posessive, lots of energy in their young years, sometimes doesn't like to be told what to do. They are not as easily trained as a shephard or lab mix but very protective for their size. Good Luck.
