hi past January I began reading a book called "Simple Abundance". This book is all about re-evaluating our lives and simply simplifying them so we don't feel so rushed and act like we are on auto pilot. One of the steps was doing that emotionally hard task of clearing out the closet. Sounds simple, but it's not. Because a lot of us put an emotional price tag on our clothes like we do most other objects we have acquired over the years.
The author suggests to set aside two hours on a day when you know you will have time to do this. Make sure you have the boxes and bags you need and pull everything out of your closet and set it on the bed. That way you have to complete the task. She also suggests to do this at the change of the season. And then you start by figuring out if the piece of clothing actually fits into your lifestyle or actually fits you. If not get rid of it. And once you have parred down the wardrobe you can play dress up like you did as a child to find what works for you style wise. According to her it is not about fashion at this point in our lives as we embark upon the simple abundant path it is abotu style.
So have you done this this year? Do you fear doing this? Do you need to do this?

Yes, I know what exactly you mean, sometimes when I dig out some clothes it reminds me of a particular phase in my life and I want to move on and forget it then I just throw it out so that it doesn't remind me of any negative bad memories. On the other hand, of course I throw out clothes if they don't fit or are really worn out.

I sure do need to do this! Ihave tons of clothes that represent the "old me" - the pre-mommy days. As a mom, I would never wear some of the more lower-cut and revealing clothes that I used to go out in when I went to bars and dance clubs....not to mention the fact that they no longer fit my post-baby body. For me, I keep thinking tha tI will fit into them again one day and be able to wear them if I chose to do so. But in actuality, even if I did fit into them, I really shouldn't be wearing low-cut blouses and tank tops or short skirts anymore. So I think you have jsuyt inspsired me to clean it all out and SIMPLIFY my life! Thank you!

Who is the author the book?
I have not gone through my clothes yet and I am afraid to in fear that once I clean out my closet I may discover that I have no clothes to wear. I will be doing a lot of house cleaning this Sunday and I use my old clothes to clean and with me starting to paint the bathrooms I do not want to get anything new dirty. I hate spring cleaning because it takes up so much time and it drives me crazy. My husband and I will go through his clothes next week and see what we can get rid of.
