I personally would not want a dislike button. Although the intentions may be good (like your example about disliking something bad that happens to your friend), there may be other who may abuse it in a negative way - and that's what I wouldn't want to see happening on Facebook. On Yahoo Answers, they have that thumbs down option - and it can bend people out of shape pretty easily. Like say for example you post a video link to your favorite song - someone may not like it and mark dislike on it. Perhaps some people wouldn't care, but the person who posted it might take it personally. I like to think of FB as a happy place, and would hate for people to have the option of putting something negative on my wall. People can make negative comments still if they really wanted to, but I think currently most friends won't do this (as a courtesy perhaps).

Hi. mickster. Welcome to myLot. A couple of weeks ago, this girl brought this idea up on Facebook. I think that Facebook should have this type of button on here. I just hope that if they decide to have the dislike button, people won't abuse it. It would be great to dislike things that we don't like.

If the status message was about the bad weather, something happening wrong with the person well of course the dislike button must be applicable as much as possible.

Uhm, I could deffiently see the pro's and con's of a dislike button. I get the con of how it bends people the wrong way. They have it on youtube and if you read the comments on youtube people just get so negative there. BUT youtube is a general website for all to look at. Facebook is more of a connected sites where you are usually speaking among friends and family, so to be able to dislike something on facebook such as a bad event someone has posted does not seem to cause too much damage. I just hope it doesn't get taken too far.
