Children know how to rub you up the wrong way! i was fishing for compliments of my 9 year old daughter. i put on Oceans 11 hoping there would be some some recognition with me when she saw George or Brad or even that wee stumpy fella Matt Damon. but no, who does my daughter think i look like? Peter Griffin from family guy!!!!
Have you been let down by a cruel remark from a 9 year old? Boy!!!! is she lucky she knows the number to childline! (just kidding! )

Gee I am trying to remember the hundreds of remarks from my kids at age 9, the worst was when they use to call Mrs. Huckstable, from the Cosby's because I always sat down and discussed why I was upset and or reasons for having to punish them.
Although I tell you what now that they are older it is so cute to remember back as they were actually telling me I was a great mom. Even though at the time I did not see it that way.
But I tell you there is never a day that we do not laugh now over it. So one day you two will laugh and might I say I think it is pretty funny. I would be laughing right with her too.

Mostly they just don't care about the stuff I'm interested in, but the cruelest thing is that they won't let me sing.

I don't watch Family Guy so I had to look up to even see who Peter is!!! It could have been worse...she could have told you that you look like Homer Simpson's boss Mr Burns!!! Anyway, I think Peter is cute & cuddly...kinda like a teddy bear!!!
Mine wasn't a 9 year old. I was a single lady when he was only 5 & he loved watching MTV. He was always telling me one of those GREAT looking male singers was going to be calling me to go out on a date. We were watching one night & he asked me which guy I wanted to call me & I chose Jon Bon Jovi. He looked at me & laughed..."you're waaay too ugly for him to call you!!!" Of course I pretended to cry & he said he'd call Jon & tell him I needed a date. I told him to forget it as I didn't want to date a guy who didn't like ugly girls!!! He came back later & told me to hurry up & get dressed as Jon said I was beautiful & would be picking me up in 5 minutes. That was his FIRST lesson in telling a female she was ugly!!!

Actually, he's still not very smart when it comes to women!!! He married a gorgeous woman. He was teasing her one day about how ugly she was. He's in the Army & the next day he received orders to be deployed to Afghanistan. I laughed at him & asked him..."when you gonna learn to NOT tell a woman she's ugly???" Think he finally learned anything???
I've been thinking more about your daughter's comment & it could have been a compliment in her eyes!!! Step back & look at it from the eyes of a 9 year old. They love cartoon characters..Peter is a lovable, cuddly guy who isn't half bad looking; & in her eyes, he probably represents a good Dad who makes her feel safe!!! Now isn't that better than a handsome, womanizing cad who can't make a commitment???

You men are a different breed. For me I have admitted to my kids that i am fat. They have teased me and we joked about it a lot. The thing that worries me is that my 7 year old may not think that telling someone he/she is fat is bad so now when we joke around I remind her not to call other people fat lest they will get angry with her.

That's why I don't stick around with children. I don't know how I'll survive having kids, but right now I choose not to deal with them at that age. I love younger children up to 3 or 4 because they can hardly talk, so they won't say anything really stupid or annoying.

I'm sorry but I can't help my laughing!! Kids are so comical!! They're so honest in their opinion because they're so innocent in their way of thinking. Lo and behold their teenage years though. That's when it's HELL to pay! But at 9 years old, she's really young and doesn't know that much about comments hurting others. Did she think it was a compliment? Either way, at least she told you the truth!

Funny, I watch The Family Guy and Peter Griffin isn't George Clooney at all. Are you sure you have the beard? Maybe you're missing the low-toned, suave voice. Anyway, it's obvious you need to work more on "the George Clooney impression". Good luck.
