I just read from Patricia Evanglista's column that apparently the former President Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Nonoy Aquino waived his right about this subject, and let the Vice President handled it because he might be biased about it. According to the article around 154 representatives already voted yes for it (if I remembered the fact right) I am really outraged with this. How can be the dictator who put us on a terror regime be allowed to be buried there? Have we forgotten the rotten things he did? What about the taxes we have to pay because he swindled us of our fortunes. What about us, the poor Juan's who has to strive 24 hours a day in order to live. Should we just say gratis? I don't know, I may be overreacting. What are your thoughts on this?

Better yet that cemetery should be changed in Libingan ng mga Sundalo. So that even the corrupt politicians or military are allowed to buried there.

I also do not agree with Marcos to be buried there. Not only did he made our country suffer with all his dictatorship but also swindled our fellow Filipinos fortunes just as what you said. And now, our country is suffering, reaping all the deeds he has done. My friends and I had talk about this in one of our daily discussions and they told me that Marcos actually fit the criteria of being considered as a hero. He also did several things for our country. But still, it won't change my opinion of him. Several Filipinos sacrificed their lives, leaving their family for the sake of our country. To fight for our country's freedom and overthrow the dictator. I say those people should be buried there instead of Marcos.

Hi tecchigurl, Thank you for the response. You are right, there are always two sides of a coin. That's why I posted it here. Though I respect other people opinion, I too feel that he does not deserve the hero tag.

HEllo chaze, if Angelo Reyes was buried there, then there's no choice but to have marcos buried there as well. but i disagree with the fact that so called soldier turned dictator should be buried in cemetery of heroes. it's imelda who shouldn't be buried there. that's the problem with us filipinos, we tend to forget a lot of things in life and the experience of this country.

Hi Letran, I am not an Angelo Reyes fan either, they should have scrapped the bayani part and just stick to LIBINGAN so they would not incur the wrath of plain Juan like us, who has to toil in order to survive.

I guess you can bury mass-murderers, plunderers and all sorts of scumbags in the Libingan ng mga Bayani as long as they became a soldier at one point in their life. This is how the supporters of Marcos burial sees it. Me, I prefer Marcos' mummified remains join Bin Laden in an ocean burial.

First off, I never really knew Marcos. I knew him because of the compulsory Philippine History classes and texts. And I also know the late president from second hand sources like the media and other referenced items. I will admit that I grew up in a household (perhaps in a society) that would never discuss Marcos in whatever light because of the unspeakable things he did. To be honest, majority of the time, Marcos is painted in a less flattering light but considering what he did in those times, one could hardly blame the people for not doing so. This debate of whether or not the former president should be buried in the said cemetery is always a debate. People will disagree on things and everybody ends up not agreeing on what to do and leave the issue on the table. No resolution whatsoever. On this current issue, there are two sides - the people who wanted the matter to move on and the people (mostly victims of the regime) who do not want to move on because the regime took their loved ones away and justice has not been served even after all these years. These people believe that the sacrifices of their loved ones are being dishonored by placing the perpetrator on a glorified platform. To add a kick to the gut, he has to be considered as a hero. That notion would just put more salt in the wound. It is understandable why majority of the people want to brush this issue away. It's too sensitive and opens up wounds and emotions long thought to mend and recovered. I believe that those representatives who voted yes might want to get rid of the issue and should listen to their constituents more than they should. Maybe we should pull a No Marcos burial revolution. Last time I remembered, we're the bosses of this country and there's no regime stopping us do what we wan to do. As for me, I don't want him there. I don't need a concusses or congressmen to do the voting for me. I vote just fine. They say keeping a grudge is unfair but does the late president's actions fair? Yes, there was discipline but people are more concerned for their lives than being disciplined. Besides, his delayed burial can make up keep on our toes. There was a lesson learned with the late president and since we are a forgetful people, we need a little reminder once in a while. Even it comes in the form of an unburied man attached with a air conditioning systems, I'll take that over anything else.

Hi Jeanneyvonne, You are right, you made some valid points in these discussion. On the other hand, I would like to state that since this is a sensitive issue, to quote, congressmen should not just brush this issue away. What they should have done was to take care of the Human Rights Complaints filed on the Marcos regime and came out with a resolution that would appease everyone. Just because its painful to discuss does not mean that it should not be put on priority list.

I do hope that he may be buried in the Libngan ng mga Bayani, its because he played a very crucial role before n keeping our country financially stable and it cant be denied that during his administration, peace is strictly implemented. So, i believe that he must obtain full respect and honor!

We filipinos forget, and we forget fast, sadly... He might have all the reasons and justifications to be buried there but isn't that a place for people who helped to build this nation? what did he do? his regime highlighted a culture of corruption (from the smallest governtment offices/employees, to the office of the president, a rampant culture of corruption)which crippled this country. we have the skills, the people, the resources, the knowledge, the means to be great as a nation but look at us now? we are so far from our asian neighbours, why? because of the corrupt politicians, sila ang sumira ng bansa natin! Isn't that why they call in libingan ng mga bayani? for Heroes? what is so heroic about the actions he did when he was still alive? if corruption is heroic then damn, i move that 90% of politicians be buried there!

In my opinion, Marcos should also be buried there. He was said to be a good soldier too during the war times. Most of the people buried there are soldiers, so i suppose as a soldier , much more with medals of valor , he should be buried there too, regardless of whether he was bad during his last reign as president.

At least now he is in peace and for sure he do regret everything he had done wrong to our nation. We are only humans who also have lapses let's just forgive him. All we have to do is to be more tough on our everyday crisis.

Hi Christine, Thank you for taking the time to comment on my discussion. However, let me just point out that there is nothing to forgive as the Marcos children had denied their father ever being involved in those abuses and claimed that their father was the victim of injustice. It kinda make you grit your teeth right?

Like any other we all have our mistakes and we feel it the moment it comes back to us the late President deserves to be buried there, I believed he is just like us sinners.

Libingan ng mga Bayani definitelys not the proper place to be the final resting place for Mr. Marcos. He should be buried somewhere else in his hometown Ilocos . Have the present Govt. already forgotten the crimes he did during his 20+ years of dictatorship? the ill-gotten wealth? human rights violations etc? as far as I know many of this cases are not even resolved up to this very moment. I wonder What the heck are these congressmen are thinking? I have my fingers crossed their decision be reversed.

Hi Asiacevillar, I totally agree with you. He shouldn't be buried here sa Libingan ng mga Bayani. He can be buried anywhere else, I really do not care where. Let me just revise that to 190 congressman who supported the resolution. Do not cross your finger too much, it might get knotted. According to the write up- 50% of the public supports the Marcos Burial. Boy, I wondered if there are other cases recorded of mass amnesia.
