I came across this quote, "The Foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet". Yes, we do vary in seeking joys in life. There are people who finds happiness in traveling around the world while others prefer to stay in their own country, their comfort zone and still consider themselves as happy. In your case, how do you grow the happiness under your feet?

I try to be happy wherever I am, whoever I'm with and whatever I'm doing. The only things that make me unhappy is when I'm envious of others, so I avoid that. I am happy in my country, amidst all the misery of poverty, but, when I travel outside, I'm happy to see how their lives are, and try to learn things from them and apply them at home.

I agree with you gloryacam. That's what I have been telling my to my kids, "Life is what we make it. Life is a choice". And for them to be happy, as much as possible, they should not compare themselves with others, otherwise they'll end up being envious. Always compare oneself - the new you or who you are now and the you in the past. In this way, you don't only improve your personality or yourself but you'll be enjoying life to the fullest. And trying to be happy is actually a matter of mindsetting. It's nice to know that at times you are in control of yourself. Yes, we can be happy by avoiding the negativies around us.

You're right, it's a choice. No matter how bad the situation is, if you choose to be happy, you will be happy. Because, no matter how privileged your life is, if you choose to be miserable, then you will. For me, I try to be happy everyday, even for silly things. And, of course, ultimately, I have joy in my heart being a Christian and leaving it all up to Him to sustain me everyday.
