What am I Here, Is there a Higher Purpose for Our Existence?

Throughout history, many have asked the philosophical question "What am I here for?" If we were to examine what people spend their time and energy on, we could see that a great amount of resources is spend simply on sustaining their lives by doing everything to ensure that food, clothing, and shelter are provided for. Animals and human beings alike pursue their instinctive needs daily. The pursuit of such physiological needs is not a bad thing at all. However, what distinguishes us, humans from biological entities is that mankind does have a higher purpose. If we do not search out that purpose, understand and fulfill it, then we would have lived a life no different from that of any ordinary beast.

We must become part of the one new man, because it is there where we can be reconciled to God, where the hostility caused by sin is brought to an end, and where we are forgiven for all of our weaknesses and sins for us to become holy and emerge pure and worthy in the sight of God.

I believe in what you say to be true. If I may, I would like to go a step further. I don't know if you believe in God but I do. And I believe with all my heart, that a destiny awaits me. This destiny had been decided by God before I entered in a flesh and blood body. Now, here is the kicker. I have free will, to take the steps that I need to in order to create the best possible outcome. We live in a world that has many religious beliefs. Christians and the Christ doctorine are witnessed to masses of people each day. So one can have a choice as to which doctorine speaks to them. Then this will be the initial stepping stones towards the destiny that awaits each of us. Nice topic!~:-)

Yes my friend, I also believe in our Almighty God. The higher purpose that God planned for mankind is that we should live to do good works. As human beings, we were created with the capability to be taught and to understand God's laws, and to choose to obey and guided by them as we live in this life. Thanks for the appreciation my friend. God bless us all.^_^

I do not believe that humans are higher than other animals, and yes, I say other animals because we are just animals. We may be on top of the food chain and this has made us very arrogant, but we are not invincible. We need the rest of the world to survive. The Earth is one big system and we are all apart of it. Maybe the difference between humans and the rest of the animals is that we take existence for granted. Why do we need a "higher" purpose? Why is existence not enough? I believe our egos can explain this. We are constantly comparing ourselves with others and as a result we are never satisfied, never at peace. The higher purpose of existence is to appreciate existence and to love. We are here simply to experience. I wish for nothing more than what any "ordinary beast" has, and that is inner-peace. If to be human means to live a life of ego, then I want nothing to do with it. Namaste.
