Boxing have been one of my fave sports even when I was a kid at Grade 5. I was once a fan of Oscar De la Hoya and Mike Tyson during the mid-90s, nowadays for Manny Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez. last Sunday night, I was able to catch a news on t.v. with a bishop or a priest saying that Boxing sport is unbiblical and persuades people to discourage love for the sport. Boxing is an exciting sport. Some enthusiasts have their bets placed everytime there is a good match but for myself I don't bet for any of them. I just enjoy watching the sport not because it gets brutal and messy at times but above it all I just enjoy watching the sport and that's the only reason.

I respect your view but I really do not understand how anyone can enjoy boxing. I do not see how hitting someone in the head is a sport. The long term effects of having one's brain consistently shaken by numerous blows just doesn't seem very healthy to me. Where am I going wrong in my thinking??

I don't know why they say it is unbiblical. What is unbiblical, anyway? I heard the priest say boxing is unChristian, but I just think they are sour-graping and at the same time jealous of the attention being accorded to Manny Pacquiao. The other theory is that they are disappointed that the number of churchgoers dwindled last Sunday, because more people chose watching the Pacquiao-Mosley fight over hearing their self-gratifying homilies. In my opinion, they shouldn't go after Pacquiao. After all, PacMan is a defender of the Pro-Life choice.

Hello Taski24,
That's one good explanation RIGHT there. one time i went to church around 3 in the afternoon, there wasn't much choir, servers and other church goers around. where are they? in their homes watching the Manny Pacman fight. I have lost interest to what ever they are trying to say because they're also people. they are jealous to boot, that's one thing for sure.

Orthodox Catholic Christianity has always forbidden its members from engaging in (or otherwise supporting) "bloodsports" of any kind. That includes, among other activities, forcing animals to fight, football, & yes, boxing.
It should be obvious why. We read in the bible in numerous places how we are to be at peace with one another, & not to glory in fighting or killing. While football once wasn't violent, for decades now, it's become an increasingly, extremely violent sport, with opposing teams deliberately trying to harm the other side.
