So... usually I do my homework at the last minute anyhow... but this one might not have been such a good plan. I have to interview a manager for a paper. But, since it's so late in the game I'm going to try to interview SEVERAL managers. And anyone that's a manager or owns their business is cool Even if it's not a big business, or you haven't actually go any employees under you. It's okay to answer what you WOULD look for if you had employees. You can answer them all or just pick one to answer. But, I would appreciate the help with this if at all you can spare the time.
1. What do you think has helped you most in getting to the position you are in today?
2. What kinds of qualities do you look for in a manager?
3 To what degree do you go to mentor someone you feel has what it takes?
4. How do you go about finding people to hire for a position in management?
5. Which is worth more to you for a new hire? Education or Experience.
6. What kind of things do you look for on a background check?
7. What kind of things on a background check do you let slide?
8. What is the first thing you look for in an interview?
9. If a person has nothing else what 3 skills would you hire a manager with?
10. What is the absolutely worst thing a manager could do that would result instant termination?

I once heard it put, Procrastination is putting of till the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. It is an enemy we all face though. And since I just recently got promoted at my full time job, and am constantly working on my part time fortune, I would appreciate the opportunity to improve what modest skills I do have by assisting you in this project.
1 - What has helped me most in getting to the position I am today, is doing all that is expected of me, and a little more. Always accepting responsibility for my actions, and acting with the best interest of both my customers and employers in mind, with or with out permission or guidance. Also, being willing to help in any and every capacity where it is necessary.
2 - In a manager I look for strong communication skills, patience, empathy, organization skills, as well as a strong positive attitude.
3 - I mentor someone to the degree that they choose for themselves. If I give advice, and it is taken, I step it up, if it is ignored, I worry less about mentoring said individual. It is up to them, to want to improve, not me to force the improvement.
4 - To find a person to hire in a management position, the best way is to promote from with in, your best qualified employee, the second best way, is a long and arduous trial, in which you bring people on in a trial basis until you find someone that fits with your organization.
5 - Experience hands down, education leads to arrogance, experience to humility, at least that is my personal view.
6 - Background check, reasons for leaving previous positions, and hobbies, peoples passions are what drive them.
7 - Most things, I work in the service industry, you encounter all sorts of people, it is hard to determine from a back ground check how they will work for you. So, I try my best to start them on a fresh slate.
8 - Work ethic and Work attitude. Those are the two most important things in any position.
9 - Communication, that is the most important, we need to be able to understand each other. Strong work ethic, even an untrained person with the desire to achieve will do very well if they are willing to work. Desire to learn, that is almost as important as communication.
10 - Physical abuse of staff.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

Thank you so much for your contribution, CJ... I appreciate an added perspective to my paper.
And I know that my procrastination habit will not serve me well in the management world whatsoever. I hope that my current predicament will teach me a lesson.

ans for the 1 questin if i were an interviewer than i would expect ans something like this -- My self belief and confidence that i have on my ability has helped me in getting to the position that i am in today.
ans for the 2 question if i were an interviewer than i would expect something like this ---- i would like to see if the person is honest to what he/she says with an uncluttered mind and ready to take up any challenge thrown at him/her.
ans for the 3 question ---- to an extent were if i see that mentoring the particular person is helping in success of project assigned to that person then for me that will a success.
ans for the 4th question --- i would role out an ijp within the organisation were anyone and everyone is eligible for the post provided the person is ready to deliver in the trying and demanding circumstance and get ready to take the onus if things dont go their way.
ans for 5 ---- stability is more worth for a new hire.
ans for6 ---- background chk would like education qualificaiton, past history in the previous organisation performance related details etc.
ans for 7 --- how the previous company rates him thats is something that i would probably let slide. it doesnt matter how the previous company rates the new hire as long as the person does a decent job.
ans for 8 --- presentation and etiquettes
ans for 9 --- taking responsibility, stability and punctuality {adherence}
ans for 10 --- any verbal or physical harassments taking place with the subordinates and co workers would be enough to hand over the pink slip.

Thank you so much for your help! I really do appreciate it. My favorite of your answers was probably answer 9... I always have wondered what is the favorite things that managers look for when hiring and that one really sums up the top 3, I think.
