This photo is one of 2 containers of acorn squash we decided to plant in a container. The root balls of this are fairly small so I hope this works out as they tend to take a lot of space with their vine like tendencies. What do you plant in containers for your garden?

That is a good idea. I put my new kind of mint in a large flower pot, as I do not want it taking over everything else. I have some "winter onions" and when they set seed, I think I will do a planter of them near the kitchen door.

Okay Grandpa I have complained for a week that I no longer have a garden and who is me I can't plant. I since this past weekend went into our storage and found a load of pot planters and am eager to try something here in pots. I will have to let you know my success and or flop. lol
But I am looking forward to pot planting something as it will bring some smiles to see them grow. Thanks for so many wonderful hints you have been giving me.
I did not think about applying mulch to the pot so I will be doing the same as you.

Most of my garden is containers this year. They are easier to weed. I plan on perhaps putting my vining crops in the old garden bed, if I get to it. So I have tomatoes and peppers and herbs in containers. Potatoes in another type of container. Peas in a raised bed.

I think that next year I will put squash and cucumbers in containers, the peppers I ended up putting in the old garden did better than the ones in containers. I need to do some more pickled peppers or some pepper jelly.

Please keep us posted about how your squash is doing. I use containers that size for smaller plants. Last Summer I planted sweet peppers in containers.

I mostly plant herbs in containers (and lots of flowers) but vegetables go in the ground or in growbags in the greenhouse. At least partly because they tend to need lots of water, and we always go away for ten days in the summer. If it's really hot then, they'd go short. Flowers will recover (or they've mostly finished anyway) but veggies tend to stop producing.
Acorn squash - that's another one we don't have. I have some butternut squash growing waiting to get big enough to be planted out.
