If you could have a trip how long would you like to go for?

In my younger days I had some long trips like over one year around the world when I was 20 to 21 years old. I traveled to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands for several months when I was 29 years old. These days my trip overseas typically lasts for two to three weeks. I have two dogs at home and I don't like to leave them for long. When I am on a trip my mom cares for them. I travel with my 3 year old disabled son and my 22 month old daughter. I have to take soy drink powder for my kids and so I wouldn't be able to carry loads of those.
Typically how long do your trips last?
How long were you away on your longest trip?
If you had a free trip where would you go?
How long would you go away for?

Hi maxi, I must give you a title. That is 'Roaming Lady'. You travel and travel. I wonder how you manage travelling with your 3 year old disabled son and 22 month old daughter. It is miracle to me. Really you are a couregious woman. I have no language to appreciate you.

Hi Bhanusb. It was easier to travel when my disabled son was a baby. I had a stroller and managed to carry all our things. I remember when he was 13 months old I had a struggle with the 15kg of baggage allowance by the airline. In the end I paid extra for them to take the 5kg travel cot. I traveled with my disabled son to South Africa but we had a 5 hour delay in front of the 12 hour flight. I was at that time pregnant with my daughter. When my daughter was 11 months old we flew to Vancouver. On our latest trip the airports were challenging to travel through. We traveled London to Cartagena in Colombia via Madrid and Bogota. I like my new title. Thanks my friend.

I agree with bhanusb It is very fantastic that you are traveling with your kids and enjoy time with them. I think It would be hard for me to travel with so little disabled kid, but you do It. You are very strong person It would be nice If more people would be like you.

I would love to go many places and I guess it would depend on where I was. I would like to spend a week in Hawaii on the beach. I would love to go back to Canada to Niagara Falls and spend a week. I would like to spend a couple of weeks in Italy nd France. I would like to spend a month or more in Egypt. I would love to go to Switzerland, Sweden, Paris, Rome, and many other places for visits.
If I had a free trip I would want it to be to Egypt as I am fascinated by the pyramids and mummies.
I think that it is great that you can travel with your kids. Do you travel for work or just for fun? How can you afford to travel so much? I know we can't afford many trips.

Thanks for your excellent response. In my younger days I had cheap accommodation because I slept in a dorm bed in a youth hostel and camped in my tent. I got a train pass to get good value or got a cheap flight. In order to afford my trip around Europe I worked as a children's nanny in Finland. For my trip around the world I let out my home and worked in Australia on my working holiday visa. I travel for fun and not work. I save up and buy the flight about 6 months before my trip and then I save more money for my trip day by day.
I loved it in Hawaii and spent an expensive 10 days there. Last year I traveled to Canada and had just over two weeks. I spent a few days visiting family over there. Yes, Egypt would be a fascinating place to visit. It has the River Nile and beaches in addition to the pyramids. If I went there I might need as much as one month. It would have cheap prices I think but to stay that long in France or Italy would be way more expensive.

If I would have a free trip? I'd like to travel to Moscow, Paris, Milan, Berlin and Netherlands, and experience their culture, taste their food, and meet their people. Will probably take me about two months to do that.

I very much like your idea for a two month trip around Europe. Maybe you could travel by train. If you began in Amsterdam then you could catch a train to Paris, next you cold travel on to Milan and finally on to Berlin. Maybe you would see some of Poland on your way over to Moscow. That would be the right amount of time for these interesting destinations.

Our trips tend to be about two weeks, since we're both students and therefore skint :( We're trying to save money so our holidays are usually on a pretty strict budget.
I'd love to do a year around the world though, that sounds so exciting! If I had a free trip I'd love to take a really long one and visit Costa Rica, the Galapagos and Madagascar, to see all the amazing wildlife.

In my student days I found some bargain deals on flights. During the summer holidays when I was at university I traveled to Kenya for a safari and to Israel plus Jordan. Sometimes a charter airline offers a two week duration for a low cost.
You have some excellent choices of destinations for a long trip. Costa Rica, the Galapagos Islands and Madagascar are very close to the top of my travel wish list. You could combine Costa Rica with traveling in Nicaragua for a cheaper trip maybe. A flight to Madagacar is expensive but once there it is cheap.

If I had no responsibilites ever and could do it then I would like to spend 6 months to 1 year travelling around the whole world and see as many places as I could! I would love to see most of europe and also I wish to visit every single state of America too so I guess I would need the whole year ideally if not longer! Lol

Personally i don like to take trips because i gues the money can be used to buy foods and such and paid bills instead waste it going somewhere strange and get con and headache of getting lost and such. For those who take tour guide will be expensive and such. Driving myself will be tiring too.I prefer taking short trip maybe 2 hours drive and staying overnight. However that is seldom too.

My trips are usually within a week because my parents have to work and cannot stay away for very long. Even if I do not go travelling with my parents, I do not like spending away for more than a week because I will feel tired of travelling after 4 or 5 days and do not enjoy the trip anymore. The next place that I would like to is Australia so as to see the beautiful sea and countryside there.

Hi max
I do love travelling with hubby, kids and grandkids during vacations of grandkids schools, hubby is retired, i resigned from job too.
We both have health issues, so much food restrictions, due to diabetes neuropathy we get exhausted, tired so soon, so we usually travel by train in 2 tier air-conditioned coaches, vey comfortable, just like our home..
Thank you so much for sharing

I think we should spent minimum 7days. Well, I went to Israel last year and just loved it. They have wonderful beaches, and all the culture you could ask for! Not sure how far you want to travel. How about someplace exotic like Indonesia or Thailand? You could go to Austrailia too. They have wonderful beaches, and you could go during our winter, when it's their summer.

At 20 I went for a working trip round the world for a year.
I loved it so much I came back 14 years later with a wife and two children!
A few years back I sailed across the South Atlantic in a friend's yacht and that took a total of 5 months. A fantastic experience.
Then a couple of years back we went from the UK to New Zealand for a wedding and stopped in USA and Fiji on the way out and Tokyo on the way back - a month away. Loved it.
I think a month away is about right. It is so nice to come home!

Wow! You've been around the world??? That's wonderful. I'm envious! I wish I had the resources to do that! It's been my dream to go around the world and visit different places. Why do you always travel? Is it part of your work?
I think for me the duration of the travel would depend on the place to be visited. Three days would probably be the shortest if the destination is within the country and if the place is small. If I'm going out of the country, then I think I would love to have a longer trip. I'm single and I don't have a family of my own so it would be okay for me to be away from home for a long time. I don't have pets either. I only have my work as my responsibility but if it allows me to be gone for a long time, then I would travel for a long time. I think I'd like to stay in one country for a month so I can thoroughly experience everything.^^
Cheers.

Hi there, I would love to travel however my budget does not permit me to do so.if given a chance I would like to visit Paris (to see the Eiffel Tower), Australia, Switzerland, Italy(romantic place to go with my partner), Thailand, Vietnam, Egypt(to see the Pyramids), New Zealand(to visit my favorite aunt), Jerusalem (to visit the birth place of Jesus Christ) and a lot more. Moreover, my ailment's been stopping me to do the things i truly love. it's been giving me a hard time for several years now. :(

Hi!
Wow! Going trip for over a year is really something that I cannot imagine. I don't think I will be able to do that in my life. The longest trip I had before is 2 weeks when I backpacking in Thailand. That is the longest trip I had before. Now with children, the longest I think will go will be around a week, because there are too many things that need to pack along.

Lately the longest I've been on any kind of vacation has just been a few days to a week. But the longest I've ever gone, when I was a little kid, was probably two to three weeks. Somewhere thereabouts. My father was a trucker, and still is, and I used to go with him a lot as a toddler.
If I could go anywhere for free, I have no idea where it would be. I would leave that decision up to my girlfriend. And our stay would just be however long she wants to stay.
