Awkward dog moments

This kind of goes along with the discussion I just left in "Life" called awkward neighbor moments. But the dog version is funny too. So when my husband got up to check on the rustling noise in the driveway last night, he called for the dogs to go with him. Mind you, I have 3 large dogs. He is standing at the front door calling for some dogs to check out the noises and the hound is staring at him from the couch with that "I'm not going out there look", while the other 2 dogs are in my room asleep on the floor.
I know this is my fault. I have babied them so much to the point where they think they are people.
After my husband comes back in from the awkward moment in the front yard in his underwear, the oldest german shepard is asleep on his pillow. Yes, my husbands pillow. I thought this was very funny. My husband, not so much.
Well, after a few more hours of rest, we laughed about it.
So do your dogs expect you to protect them? Don't get me wrong I think my dogs would die for us if they thought we were in trouble.
Most of the time you walk toward the front door the dogs will run you over to get out with you.

Probably the dogs knew that nothing wrong happened outside and they didn't need to spoil their precious night sleep for nothing.
What you said with the German Shepherd sleeping on your husband pillow is nothing unusual. My dog always sleep on one of the pillows. The moment my husband gets of the bed, she's right there, occupying his spot (and, of course, his pillow).
I'm sure your dogs would protect you if you were really in troble.
My previous dog, who was the most calm and gentle dog, did protected me when I was attacked by some teenagers. She became a fierce dog in a second and she scared away the two drunk boys. I hope you'll never be in the situation to be protected by your dogs. It is better not to face such a situation.

Mizziexoxo, welcome to myLot! Maybe your animals were too tired to get off the bed. If you think accidents like this will happen again, maybe you should consider training them to let you know when it smells like smoke.
Carmelanirel, of course I know how Penny and Ciara jump on your son's bed. Question is: do you think they would have accompanied your husband if something unusual had happened outside in the middle of the night?
Here's a picture of Binne sleeping on the pillow. During the day she's happy to sleep all alone on two pillows.

Very cute! My dogs are the same. Sometimes they will bark at a noise they hear while backing up. lol. instead of going forward they retreat! Dogs are very amusing.

Its funny how we end up protecting them, huh? They all have their own personalities that's for sure. Thanks for the response.

Hi snyderblog, either because my dogs spent their first 6 weeks outside, or they just love being outside, I know that any chance they get to go out with one of us, they will jump at it. My dogs are sisters, beagle/border collie mix, Penny has the beagle coat while Ciara has the longer collie coat. The only time I get the "You crazy, I am not going out there!!" is from Penny when it is raining hard..I think that is because she feels the rain right away, and Ciara does not with her longer coat, so she doesn't mind going out, rain or shine.
Both dogs know that my son's bed is their bed, even though they share a kennel in the kitchen for an occasional nap or to get away from it all..So there are times my son has to fight for his blanket...

Hahaha. Funny dogs. Very adorable indeed.
Our little puppy is learning that antic too. Acting deaf and not responding when being called. But when she sees treats she approaches even without being called.

Well that sounds pretty funny, and yes, dogs love to use our pillows ... they think they're people no matter what you do. Although, if the dogs were trained in home defense then this behavior was not good ... but if they aren't then it's pretty typical.
As the "Alphas" people are expected to take care of problems, most of the time, it's the nature of pack mentality that dogs (especially multiple dogs) have.
