I know of some people who sleeps 2-4 hours every night. Sometimes they don't sleep at all on some instances, yet they can perform daily activities well. Is a good night sleep important to us? Do you think there could be long term effects to lack of sleep?

based on my experience...lack of sleep makes someone uneasy..especially if you are new at getting little sleep..maybe the long term effect would be insomnia..i think the reason some could still do productive activities is because of getting used to..the body is already programmed to still work even with little amount of rest and relaxation benefited from sleep..therefore, sleep if you have the luxury of time..

I think it is really important to have a good sleep. Though people may sustain for quite a time with lack of sleep, but eventually our health will be affected later on. Our body is just like any other machine. They need some tune up and of course some rest, otherwise parts will tear up and break down or perhaps overheat.

well good sleep is really important. But some people can do well in just 3-5 hours a day. It really depends person to person.
Well the effects of lack of sleep are dizziness, irritabiliy, headaches, lack of concentration and others.

For me 7 hours of sleep is already enough. If ever i sleep lesser than 7 hours , i would surely be sluggish and not able to think well.
Sleep is important for the renewal of our cells . They said that the prime of sleep is from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 am.
I noticed too that whenever i have a good night sleep, my skin seem to glow in the morning.
People who can withstand having no sleep, may be able to do their daily activities, but they are irritable and jumpy.

Yes, 6 to 8 hours sleep is important. I have read in a health mag that it is ONLY during night time sleep our body recovers and our tissues are being repaired. Moreover, lack of sleep triggers sickness, bad mood, nausea, vomiting, lack of concentration and even psychological diseases or illnesses like mania or manic depression or hallucinations when the lack of sleep becomes recurrent. That's why I make it a point to have enough sleep.
Too much also has drawbacks, so 6 to 8 hours is enough.

Personally, I do think that having a good night's sleep is important. Granted, some can perform well with little to no sleep, and that's good for them, but I still think that they should get some sleep, and it would be a good idea to get more than just 2 to 4 hours. From what I know, it is better to get more, although I might be completely wrong and misinformed.
