I have seen a lot of tv dramas and movies where the lead actor/actress gets amnesia becasue he/she got hit by a vehicle or fell somewhere.. But doctors say that there are no cases of permanent amnesia and I haven't really heard of it happen in real life too- maybe temporary ones, that only last for a few days, but not for months or years.. Is amnesia just existent in fiction, and to just make the story more interesting and exciting??

Amnesia is a temporary memory loss. There are two types anterograde and retrograde. Which means that the memories you will loss may come from the past or the present but never both.

I believe in amnesia,it is caused by a damage in the brain which is responsible for memory.Amnesia is classified into two i think we have short term and long term.People with head trauma certain brain conditions and old age would experienced memory loss or amnesia.I think everyone of us experience some short term memory loss I experience that when I forget something a notebook, ball pen before going to school and I think it is a short term memory loss.Try to watch movie entitle "the notebook" the girl there was experiencing long term memory loss.

Well yes I believe that amnesia is a real condition in which a person can have partial or complete memory loss due to brain trauma of some kind, in fact I recently saw a real documentary news series, and the storey was a about a real person who suffered from amnesia.

I believe that amnesia is a real condition. It can come from so many different circumstances. the mind is a complicated tool. Sometimes i think amnesia is a way for the body to renew and heal when we are traumatized. Amnesia can be quick and over before we know what it was. other times amnesia can have a lasting effect. Sometimes it might take another traumatic event in our lives for the amnesia to disappear.
