I personally use the real thing. No diet cola, just plain old Cola. Until I see someone who has lost weight or stayed healthy because they only drink diet drinks I will change my mind. To me the only difference is taste and sorry but diet drinks taste like crap.

Well there are a small number of people who really can taste the difference between chemically triggered sweetness and the real thing.( Like you and me) Diet coke taste like metal in my mouth and I really don't drink it at all.

Good on you; that's probably the better way to go. Better the devil you know than the one you don't! The sugar they use is bad for your health, but those artificial sweeteners they use are far, far worse. My motto is "if it needs something to sweeten it, don't have it, or adjust your taste buds"! We should be consuming less & less of each of these & becoming more accustomed to the natural taste of real, fresh, organic, locally grown whole produce.
There are sweeteners & there are sweeteners! One of the best I've found is the herb Stevia. http://www.stevia.net/ http://www.stevia.com/
They reckon it's about thirty times sweeter than sugar. But that's just one example.
The artificial sweeteners put into the drinks you've mentioned are one of the worst things you could ever put into your body! You really need to do some research on this one as there is so much "out there". These substances are everything from carcinogenic to robbing your body of nutrients. Steer clear at all costs.
The next on the list of priorities to avoid at all costs is sugar. All serious vegans stay right off of the stuff (animal bones are used to bleach sugar white). Those who don't care about ethical reasons should consider the health reasons:

There's 146 reasons to avoid sugar on this website, each reason detailing studies completed to support this.

My favorite used to be regular Coke. I hated Diet Coke because it really didn't taste good. When there was Coke Light, I found the taste acceptable so I tended to choose Coke Light over regular...although I would still sometimes drink the latter. But when they started selling Coke Zero, I switched to it permanently along with my brother and mom. It tastes good and there's zero sugar. That's just for Coca-Cola though. As for other sodas, I don't like Pepsi Max (without sugar). For me, it tastes real bad.
