Love Triangles?

I see a lot of people get caught up in love triangles, and I understand stuff happens, but for the most part I don't understand people who openly know they are in one and choose to stay in it. I think it causes a person to really lose respect for themselves to put up with their significant other running back and forth on them. I know a guy who all through the week he is with his girlfriend in another state, then he comes home every weekend and stays at home with his mom and is with the mother of his child. The two girls use to be best friends, but now all you see is them arguing on Facebook over this guy who is plainly using both of them. I stay out of it, but it just makes me shake my head because I hope I am never that dumb in love that I lose all my self-respect in the process.
