If you are undercharged or got an item free accidently, do you tell the cashier?

If you're someone like me who estimates the cost before checking out to the cashier and you notice you're under charged or got an item free accidentally- would you let the cashier know? I wouldn't let the cashier know UNLESS, it's something obvious like they forgot to scan something on my cart & that's like stealing but if the item is in the shopping bag with other stuff, then I didn't do anything wrong. I'm not going to stop the person and go hey, I estimated this amount but it's cheaper than expected. Sometimes, I go home, I see the cashier forgot to ring up a product but it's only $1 so I don't notice when estimating but if YOU do notice, do you tell the cashier? Or you let it go and be happy that you're saving money?

If he forgot to charge me an item, then I would tell him. But if everything was charged but the amount didn't add up to what I thought I would be paying, I would just think I received a discount, or bonus, then I will be happy for it.

I think, by right we are suppose to tell the cashier. However, in real life, will we really tell them? all of us like free things and we are happy when we get something extra or when we are charged lesser. Even when the cashier charge us a dollar cheaper, i believe it will make us happy too. Even if it is only for a while. But thinking of it, I dont' think will go tell the cashier that too. It's life and innate in human

I try to watch everything ring up, though I mostly do it to avoid being overcharged. If I catch something I speak up immediately but I have had the scenario you are talking about and see it as Fate. If I wind up with something I didn't pay for despite doing everything right at the checkout I assume the Universe meant for it to be. I recognize this is not the best way of looking at the situation; Karma would dictate I later pay for something I'm not going to get, but who am I to deny the grand designs of Fate. I know I exaggerate and jest alot, but I am serious this time :)

I am not aware that the cashier is scanning items , I just think that I have to pay them how much the product cost(I am unaware of the products too often) - giving two situations 1 they didn't scan it , I walk thinking that's the price 2 they scanned it (honesty , I check the total products and calculate the price) and even when they forget to scan I may pay the closest rounded amount for change and I may be careful if they mis-scan pricing next time for a reminder

It really would depend on what it was. If it were something small, like something that costs a couple dollars, then I probably wouldn't say anything. But, if it were something bigger, then yeah. I usually say something.

I do go back and tell them. This actually happened the other day. I was wearing a hat I was going to buy and when I checked out I forgot I had the hat on and the cashier didnt notice either. When I realized I forgot to pay for it I went back and explained it to her, she giggled and said it was alright and I paid for it of course.

Of course I would and do say something. If I don't it is stealing.

Hi there, Personally if I get undercharged I would definitely say something. Not that I am a saint by no means I just am a firm believer that honesty is the best policy. Also somehow I do not feel I can fully enjoy a free item knowing very well I did not pay for it. Karma has a way of sneaking up on me. lol

Hehe =) Sometimes, I don't notice! Last time I went to Target and a fellow classmate, rung me up and he didn't ring my candy up, I didn't know til' I got home. That was recent.

It's not our fault that the cashier undercharged us for an item or forgot to punch an item without us knowing it. And besides if it's only for a minimal amount, why would i still go back , just to tell the cashier she forgot to punch one item. However, if and ever when i arrived home and noticed from among the purchases, there's an item of big amount which was not punched or included in the cash registry, i would certainly return it the next day and have it punched and paid.

This is my problem because I do not notice if i'm overcharged or undercharged while I'm still at the cashier. I usually just notice it once i'm home. Nevertheless, if ever I notice it right away I would definitely tell it to the cashier. If not, she will have to pay it (deducted from her salary) herelf.
