When do you sleep better in winter or in summer?

Some study had revealed that, because of a system that regulates the core temperature of the body when you go to sleep, our body sleeps better in winter, because it is takes less effort to our brain cool down our internal body temperature. On the other hand, in summer, cause it is very warm, we cant sleep unitl our temperature decrease to lower levels. Do you agree with this study? Is that your case, or you are the exact opposite? I just read about that the other day, and i have to say, that it is wright, at least for me, the more warmer inside my room, the more difficult it is to go to sleep (sweeting a lot doesnt help neither).

I sleep best in winter. I get a lot of mosquito in where I live in summer and it really frustrates me and give sleepless nights... and on top of that, its very warm over here in summer which affects my sleeping. In winter, there are less mosquitoes and the city is cool and I get a good amount of sleep. In summer, we also constantly face the power cut problem which really makes you feel even more warmer and hence sleepless nights.

I remember having to put up with those pesky 'mozzies' when I lived in India! The crafty little blighters used to stay all day on the ceiling waiting for dark and then dive-bomb us in our sleep! I usually ended up looking like Quasimodo's uglier sister!

In winter my home country is very cold. In the night time I can go to sleep soundly holding a hot water bottle. In the night I have to get up for doing my disabled son's catheter. In the summer I have a light weight duvet and it can stay light outside late into the evening. I love to travel to tropical countries and these are ever so hot and sticky. If it is very hot and I get sweaty I can have trouble sleeping. Sometimes a fan or air conditioning can be noisy. So in winter I sleep the best but summer is my favorite season.

yeah everyone likes summer, well, at least those that are from cold places like me, because we are used to see all days the rain and the cold and the fog :p I would be happy in a middle-level of temperature, neither warmer or colder xD

I suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in the winter months and strangely a little in the summer. (I do use a light-box.) When good strong light enters the brain, the chemical Serotonin is released into our system. This is the 'happy chemical' that makes us feel so wonderful and uplifted in the summer months. In the winter months when there is little light, the chemical Melatonin is made that makes us very drowsy and a little depressed. It also causes us to sleep more deeply. Coupled with the core temperature of the body, which we have to keep quite high in the cold, this can result in much better sleep patterns in the winter. In the lighter, warmer months, I personally find it much harder to sleep, even if I am wearing lighter nightwear and covered with only a thin sheet, because of the light early in the morning and the increased warmth.

I don't know. For me personally, I can't stand to be cold and if I am cold it is very difficult for me to sleep.

Hi. ramshz. Welcome to myLot! I agree with this study to a certain extent. I find it very difficult to go to sleep when the room is too hot. But usually when the season is getting warmer, I get more drowsier and my energy seems to have sunken low. If it is too cold, I can't sleep because I am freezing and I find it hard to rest well. I remember sleeping in December 2008 like this. We did not have any heat in our house, and we all had to sleep like this. We all was so cold and I could never stay sleep longer because it was so cold. My body never sleeps better in the winter, especially when I don't have any warm covers to cover up with.
