Unreadable captchas and the like

We've all seen them. Sites want to make sure that we are humans. They give us a pair of words to type in before we can proceed with whatever we are doing. So why do they make them so unreadable??? Do they really think a human can read that gibberish better than a bot? Give me a break. I freak when I type a word in and, because it is so hard to read, the site says, "WRONG!!!" Just what is the purpose of making these captchas so unreadable?

I agree with you absolutly. I´m sure no robot will be able to "read" normal letter. Yet they have to place signs so difficult that to get on a site that will give you a couple of cents takes a long time. There are friendlier sites and some I´d burn

OR the letters are wiggly, as if they were dancing. I´m no bot but my eyes aren´t as new as they were.

I agree with you, it's so difficult even for people who are proficient in reading, writing and speaking English , it looks like some kind of hieroglyphs sometimes, really irritating, guess not much we can do but refresh, refresh and refresh some more till we get a semblance of what we can more or less understand, start typing it and hope for the best that it gets accepted

I know what you mean...a lot of times it looks like foreign alphabets, too...like Russian or Arabic even! I'm just waiting for some Chinese figures to pop up. What's up with that!

What I hate is when they put up these things is that they can be case sensitive and they are not words but made up combinations of letters and numbers. What REALLY GETS MY GOAT IS WHEN YOU TYPE IN WHAT IT APPEARS TO BE ONE THING AND THEN YOU FIND OUT THAT YOU ARE WRONG. This has happened to me when I type in an "O" and then find out they wanted a "0" The first one being the Capital letter O, and the second one being the number 0. How can anyone tell the difference? I can't.

Neither can I, my friend. Neither can I. The whole thing is just totally insane. I finally started just defaulting to the letter O each time. Usually that is what they want and I've only had to change it to a zero once so far.
