Has Criminal Minds passed its prime?

I've watched Criminal Minds for a long time now. I enjoy the show, but lately have found that the episodes are becoming a bit stale. While I hate it when this happens, long running shows do have this problem. In the beginning, they're fresh and new, but as time goes by, they start to lose the qualities that made them good in the first place. Some shows, like Law & Order were able to maintain the freshness longer by switching up the cast, Criminal Minds has done that to a limited extent, but it's not working. Not quite.
Anybody else think it's sort of missing the mark right now?

Hi. DoriLentrich. If I watch this show too much, I may start to feel this way. Lately, I have been an avid watcher of Criminal Minds. Especially, when this laptop stopped working properly. I enjoyed watching this show. I have been watching it steadily for about two weeks now. I just still don't know all of the cast characters names though. This show gives me a chill every time I watch it. I enjoy it and it is very thrilling and exciting to me. I don't think that I could ever find this show boring or just losing its touch.

This is one of my favorite shows and I have been watching it for a long time I watch episode after episode every night except on Saturday and Sunday,Sometimes they show a lot of repeats but if they do I just flip through the channels until the next one comes on L.O.L. I love it when Joe Montegna is on the program he is my favorite one there!! They have been playing some new episodes that I have never seen before here where I am!

I remember the episode you're talking about, and it was incredibly moving. For someone who has just discovered the show, I can understand your enthusiasm. It was a great show and still is in a lot of respects. But as with all things, sometimes time takes its toll. The episodes are beginning to feel rote and that's not a good thing. While serial killers are endlessly fascinating, there's only so much you can really do with them on a primetime television series. So, the characters become the focus at some point. Criminal Minds used to be really good at characterization, but lately I feel they're "phoning it in" on that score. There are hints of things, but nothing really comes to fruition. A recent plot line involving Prentiss was one of the most developing ones they've had in quite a while.

I'm glad you're enjoying the show. It's great when you discover a new show and it captures your interest. It is difficult for me to watch rerun after rerun of some shows, so I admire you for watching it the way you do. Rossi was an excellent addition to the team, though I sometimes wish they would play up is bad boy image a bit more. He's been married multiple times and is a brilliant man. Guys like that tend to be fascinating watching on television.

Criminal Minds is one of my favorite shows. I watch it almost nightly, even if it is a rerun. After watching the season finale last night, I am wondering if someone is not going to return next season. JJ is returning and that will make some nice changes to the show. I think that there is something changing with Penelope, but not sure what.
I do not like the new Criminal Minds Suspect Behavior as it does not have Hodge or Derrick or Reid on it. Hodge and Derrick are my two favorites with Penelope being a very close third. I love the relationship that she has with Derrick.
I hope we are blessed with several more years of this show!

I'm glad you enjoy the show. You're right, there are a lot of hints about the characters and what's going on with them, but it's maddening because that's all they are. They haven't really gone into what's going on with the characters. Prentiss was the only one who really got any development this past season and I loved what they did with her. It was one of the really original story arcs they've done. There was a little bit of political thriller and still the Criminal Minds we know and love. I hope that J.J. does come back. She was a calming force on the show and I love her relationship with her husband and baby. It really showed growth for her character.
As for Suspect Behavior, don't worry, it got canceled.

I do enjoy watching Criminal minds, but it seems that a lot of the story plots that they have been doing are just a spin off of something done before. I think that they defiantly need some fresh material. I'm not so sure about switching up the cast. I love the cast now, and usually hate when ever they switch up characters that just don't live up to the potential of the characters before them. I will continue watching the show because I enjoy it a lot.

I've enjoyed all 7 seasons of the show, and waiting for the 8th, so to me it's not stale. CM remains one of my favorite TV shows, beside the CSI series, Bones, Sherlock and Supernatural. There had been other shows which lost their appeals to me even though they were the most hyped, such as Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomies, Lost and Heroes; the writers and produces couldn't maintain their freshness after 2 seasons, tops. But for shows such as CM, the thrill and drama, while not accelerating, do remain interesting and exciting.

The new season looks promising, especially with the new character. Though, I fear, she may be too much a Dr. Reid character. However, the tension of her having been disgraced before and looking for redemption should make for some interesting twists and turns. The plots are interesting, but I feel that sometimes they are stretching a little too far. While killers are always inventive, there are only so many ways you can depict that kind of violence on a prime time show. Still, I have to agree with you, CM has been better at keeping the same level of quality over a long time.
