What is the purpose of Alexa rank

What is the purpose of alexa rank anyway?.. What are the benefits if you have a high alexa rank?.. would that affect my website visibility on search engines?..

I don't know alot about alexa. I have it and my blog is usually 21-22 out of 27.Whatever that means.
