And in my country one or two of the women chief ministers love to wear a garland of currency notes. These women leaders are great because they are after power and for...you know what. And in this country a woman becomes a chief minister straight from the kitchen. For name sake. India is great because it has defeated Nigeria in the corruption issues. Nothing gets done unless you tip the clerks and officers money. The eligible gets rejected and a worthless is given entry because there is RESERVATION. Really Great is this country.

Hello rayann, I happy to see at least one who admits what he has seen or experienced. I liked your line "They are so corrupt that even corruption would disown them." Nothing moves forward unless they are backed by money. Forget other fields, even the 'Jawans' who are the security of the country have to warm up the pockets of the high officials to get selected in the job. Now think what commitment he would have when he knows that for his job his mother had to sell her gold reckless.

That is very impressive. I think that women should have every chance to play key roles in their government. After all, women make up a huge part of the population too. I didn't realize that India had so many women in power. Thanks for sharing a piece of your culture with us.

Jen, remember all glittering things are not gold. Of course some women are in hot seats but one of the chief ministers in her previous tenure got so much messed up in corruption and misutilization of the funds that charges after charges were put against her and the result was that she lost her next election. And there was one president who showed that even in parliamentary form of Govt. the president has some power to exercise and he was replaced by a rubber stump woman president. Just this is a glimpse only.

i admire the leadership of Shila Dixit and Sonia Gandhi in front but i didn't see much work of the like of Mamta Banerjee, Jayalalitha, as of now the work of Mayawathi didn't work out to the best, in some field right now. but i do firmly believe that with all these woman efforts and strength the status of woman in India will bring a great social change. India is by far a man dominant society since long, therefore i pray for the development of woman in every sphere of life. lets cheers to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Jai hind

Hello my friend rameshchow Ji, Well , being like you I also share same feelings for our country. However, after diosclosing the facts about women's leadership, I fail to understand what is required as there wAS no concluding paragraph/sentence, which allows me to say something about thees women. All these Women leaders can do as done by Nitish Kumar Ji in Bihar, I have a doubt from Mayawati/Sonia gandhi/Shela Dixit/Jay lalitha, if they can bring any change as they are not fiorst timers. They could never do a better job, when they got power. Off course I may see some drastic changes by mamata Ji, who has a;ltraedt initiated to bring back TATA's . We have to wait and watch. Barring Mamata Ji all are un-comonm and will never understanjd common people's problem. Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hi Remo I was not aware of the many female leaders in your country and find it to be very impressive. We have not had a female president here in the US and not sure if we will anytime soon. I think it is possible and not to really refer to women and or a generalization but if the person qualifies that is all that really matters. There is corruption in almost most countries so when we hear of good leaders I find it to be very impressive, no matter what gender and should be honored and respected.

The chief difference between a U.S. State governor and a Chief Minister is that a state governor here is elected by the people of the state they are to govern rather than by the national legislature and is separate and sovereign from our federal government. In fact, a state governor actually has far more power domestically than even our president does. But I digress. Your country seems to have been on the for front of women in politics and positins in power. Good to see. In the U.S we have already had a woman as speaker of the house (and she was an arrogant shrew) and have had women governors for decades now. Our last and current secretaries of state have been women as well. There are a large number of women in our congress in in every states' legislature as well. We also have just had the first women in U.S. history promoted to the rank of Admiral in our navy and she now commands an entire battle fleet. We almost had a women president as Hillary Clinton nearly won the nomination for the Democratic primary in the last presidential election. AS nice as all of this is, we must never fall in to the trap of voting for someone simply because of the novelty of it. First and always for consideration should be the qualifications someone may or may not have for the position they are running for. While it may be novel to have a women elected president here...what good would it be if that women was a complete moron? Vote for a candidate based on their qualifications regardless of their gender, race, religion etc.

Isn’t that great? We have a woman Prime Minister for the first time and, although I am still unsure about her policies I am very proud to finally see a female in the top job! It is good to know that the culture allows women to use their talents in positions of power. I was not aware of how many there are!

It is not enough, where population of women are almost equal to men than how we can say it enough. 33% reservation for women in politics are only at Garam Panchay level not in assemblies and in parliament.
