Do you recycle, throw away or give away?

I don´t have the heart to throw away many things and I get very mad at my youngest daughter who finds everything is disposable. I recycle a lot, keep a lot of things "just in case" and give away some to people who have need for them.
I could not do it in any other way because I hate to waste any thing. Many times, when I think of it, I find it is not because I´m specially ecology concious but because I just can´t help it.
How do you do it and why do you do it that way? Share!

Hi marguicha
I am a big giver and prefer to give then to discard. I cannot be comfort trashing anything I know that others can use. I will store some things from time to time, because my boyfriends mom will move heaven and earth to retrieve just about anything even though she is hundreds of miles away.
We visit every summer so the first things I pack is anything we can no longer use, because she is good at sharing them with some of her church lady friends. She is quite a hoarder herself but anything I do give her she does makes sure someone in her church can use it.
Been this way now for 7 years and very happy to hear when she calls me and says someone is so appreciative with my donation.

I´m glad as I am glad when my own hoarding finally reaches the right hands. There are always other people who can use what we no longer use. I start by asking if my own friends and family are interested on them (I know who to ask, of course) and then move on to other people I know less.

rather than throwing it away..it is better to give it to some needy..who can value it and can make full use of it..recycling too is a way better choice than throwing or wasting the things away and very environment friendly too.
i give the things away to my family members or my cousins which i do not find useful to me and as well as i make sure that they too will not throw it away..serve the needy people..same like you i cant waste things or cant see things being wasted..have a nice time.

I have grown aware that it´s not such a good idea to burn many things. In the city where I live, woodstoves and chimnys have been banned for decades due to smog.

I take things that I no longer want to places that gives to the homeless or people in need. I also know some people that can use things so I give to them also. I do recycle aluminum. I am looking for places that takes glass and cardboard too.

There are people who make a living gathering all that to recycle. I give all those things to them. The only thing I take myself for recycling are the glass bottles as most of the recyclers come on bikes.

That is what I do too. I turn old things and leftovers into something different and new.

I think you're so kind of a woman, you have a grateful heart like my parents.they used to keep everything recycling and not willing to get rid of anything they believe valuable,i try to persuaded them to throw away something and even i threw myself, but they persisted their way, maybe i 'd rather to think about matters on the side of their thoughts.anyway, thrifty id a virtue

Besides all I save by recycling and by using my kitchen leftover, I´m doing my grandchildren a favor. It is urgent that we think about our planet. Natural resourses are ending and unfortunatly some countries fight over the little that is left while other people starve. Everything can be used by someone, even if it´s not used by you.

A lot of cans can be recycled into containers for plants. I´m doing that and so I can have my Winter veggies under cover.

Some things I'll recycle or reuse. Some I'll just throw away. I have three glass bottles (the kind that something like the Ragu tomato sauce comes in) on my desk I use for loose change, for example. I recycle aluminum cans too.
If there's some use I can get out of something, I'll keep it if applicable. I do throw things away though. But most of that is just stuff I wouldn't be able to reuse in any way.

Where I live, there are people that live by picking things up before the garbage truck comes. I have an agreement with them to place in a clean bag the things they might be interested in and that I´m not. For instance, this week I bought a new water heater. I will place the old one so that those people take the old one. Sometimes they use parts of the old things.

I once checked on how much money I spent on different elegant mops and the like and started recycing my old T shirts and other clothes. I have saved myself a lot of money and besides that it´s environmental friendly.

If we have unwanted things or things for disposal we usually give it away if it is still usable but if not we just throw them away.
My mom is very sentimental of things. She tends to keep things because she thinks that they may be of use in the future. I haven't followed in her footsteps. I think it is good to keep clutter off your house. Sometimes unused or unwanted things tend to get too much space in the house. I just don't like living in a house full of clutter.

I also tend to be sentimental with some things. But I´m making an effort. That doesn´t mean that I will throw away useful things. But I have discovered many places that will come to get what I don´t want, repair them and sell them to help other people.

My Mom keeps a lot and mY Dad and stpe-mom are hoarders is the best way to describe them, They have path ways through the house. Growing up I was attached to somethings, but wanted things to be cleaned and organized and not looked cluttered so I wld go through stuff constantly. I recycle, thrwo and give away. Sometimes sell. As Ive gotten older Im still the same. With a fam its amazing how much stuff can be accumilated. We recently moved and even though I go through things a lot there was still alot to dispose of. Mainly if it hadnt been used in a year it needed to go. I found homes for a lot of things by giving away and selling on craigslist. You feel so much better when you unload things and give yourself more living space. My kids stuff I take to consignment stores for kids. This gives me some extra cash that I use for clothes or gifts for others if I have store credit. Their toys I go through alot, especially near their birthday and Christmas. Have to make room for the new. I let them help an being kids they have a hard time. I think its something genetic too. Im not prone to keep things, but my Mom and Dad and step-mom are. My daughter takes after them by wanting to keep more, sometimes useless stuff. I dont want to upset her so I let her keeps things for a certain amount of time and than have her go through things. I look at stuff as a material object. If it makes life less enjoyable than it needs a new home. Life is to short to be weighed down by things you cant take with you anyway. better to build the memories and relationships in your life with ppl who can talk back. If your happy and living life to the fullest than take it a step at a time. Go through things slowly and soon you will be more comfortable getting rid of things.

While I try not to hoard just for the sake of it, I tend to add extra value to too many things. Later on it is difficult to separate the item from the moment I used somthing or the person who gave me the useless thing as a gift. I´m working on it and meanwhile I have discovered that it´s not so difficult to give away if you know it will help someone.

I'm not much a recycler unless I'm giving away some of my old clothes that I can't fit anymore. I mean it's good if you can conserve more on this planet but personally I'm not energy efficient like everyone says I should.

Maybe you could start by something that will help you save your own money. I started that way. Using the ecologic friendly bulbs in the house (specially where you don´t need lots of light) or putting off the light after you leave a place can be a way to begin.

REcycling is not only good for our planet, but also for our own pockets. I save a lot of food in groceries by using everything. Beet tops can be turned into salads and soups and milk cartons make good containers for my seedlings with the help of a scissor.

Throwing away things is never an option. There is not even a single item which may be called WASTE. Personally, i do not give away or throw my belongings because many times they are of uttermost imporatnce to me. Neither do I recommend such things to my family.
I just believe that recycling of some things such as battries, paper, etc is good but recycling plastic is also eqivalently dangerous as throwing it away becuse burning plastics causes pollution.
I give away things to the needy ones thinking that it might be of more use to him than me.
keep your planet clean......GO GREEN!!!

Where I live supermarkets are starting to understand that plastic bags is not an option. While they still have those (and give them free) we can buy an ecologic friendly one for little money and the´ll repalce it free if we bring it back.

It depends on what the item is...if it's not useable, i will throw it out, if it is sellable, I will have a garage sale or put it up on ebay...if it's not sellable, I will offer it on freecycle & if no one wants it on freecycle, I will give it to a charity shop.

Latelly I have wanted to make a garage sale including this old lady. I have never sold anything at ebay but my grandchildren are experts at buying and selling computer parts there.

I don’t like throwing away things that can be either recycled or given away. I feel the way you do; it is not so much for the good of the environment although that is a bonus for all, but the fact that I cannot stand to see good things in the garbage when there are people who may need them.

I alway check my wardrobe at the start of winter and summer...what I don't wear any more goes to charity...and so goes with other items as well like appliances [if they are in working order] other wise I put all in the recycling bin...we have a Council pick up which we can call twice a year and they would pick up items like refrigerators...TV and so on. So yes I recycle every thing I can't see any thing going to waste.

I think that it takes a little imagination to make useful or new things out of old things that other people discard.

I do recycling too. Especially on old clothes. I make new designs and fashionable clothes out of the old one.
But when I feel lazy to do so, I give it to our neighbors.
