Hello Harrysmallpig and welcome to myLot! Actually, our food is not the best option for a dog. There are different opinions on what food should a dog eat. Most people think that dog food is the best choice (dry food or wet food). But there are a lot of dog lovers that sustain a raw meat diet is the best choice. I had a dog that didn't eat neither dog food nor raw meat. I cooked especially for her for 13 years (but I'm not complaining about this!) because our food is not healty for a dog. Now I have another dog that is a big eater, she would eat almost anything (but, again, I am not complaining). I decided to feed her only dog food but I do think about changing her diet to a raw meat diet. Now, about your new puppy (I suppose he is a puppy), you should call the breeder to ask what kind of food he ate when he was with his mother and siblings. You should feed him the same food for a while, until he gets accustomed to his new environment, then gradually change his diet to the new one you want for him. Personaly, I still feed my dog with the same brand the breeder recommended me one year ago. Of course, I gave up on junior food and we're now on adult dog food, but we still use the same brand and we're satisfied with it. Please come back with details about your new puppy.

You need to buy food for your dog. Dogs do not have the same diet as humans and there are some things (onions and chocolate, for example) which can be very harmful to them. You should buy a reputable brand of dog food and feed your dog only enough each day according to his size (weight). Dog food can be either 'wet' (in cans or pouches) or 'dry' bite-sized chunks. You must also give him plenty of fresh water to drink, especially if you are feeding him dry food.

Dogs seldom eats the same food as we do. I used to give my dog meat stuff- like chicken curry, etc when we have it for lunch at home. But mostly I give only dog food. Pedigree is a good brand available here. Dog should be fed with dog food- and that includes both dry and wet dog food. Dry dog food is more preferable I think because wet ones might go bad if there is any slight manufacturing defect. There is some risk with that. And if you buy a pet dog- it might not eat food you provide either due to emotional problems, acclimatisation issues(adapting to the new environment) and of course- you might not be providing the food type that it was feeding all this time. For best results, consult the person from whom you bought the dog. All the Best! Regards, Ajith.

Dogs are actually omnivorous. They will, in the 'wild' eat grasses, nuts, berries, and of course hunt for meat, they will eat carrion if it is available, they will eat fish when they can get it. Most dog foods contain cereals, rice, corn etc and of course some vegetable matter. The reason our food isn't considered good for dogs is that we spice it. We add flavorings to make it more enjoyable for us to eat. Feeding a dog food that humans consume is expensive, very expensive. I suggest you try purchasing small amounts of dog food to see which your dog consumes most willingly. It could be what you have tried feeding so far is too large a bite per piece for him/her to eat comfortably. Smaller dogs need smaller bites.

I have had the same experience too. at first I gave him a leftover food and just turns his back away but as time goes by he got used to it. I think it's okay to give them the same foods that we eat as long as it is safe. Dog foods are recommended but it's just too expensive.

Our pet - She is fed on a diet recommended by her
Vet
Dogs need a different diet and even puppies and adult dogs are treated differently. It is advisable that you consult a vet on this. My dog is under a vet and I go by his instructions. Now my dog is about 4 years and she gets a good feed of cooked chicken legs, soup and rice and her favourite bowl of pedigree, biscuits and milk. Occasionally I also give her a syrup for maintaining her coat.

I have kept a ugly female dog but she is very finicky about her food.I am tired of her.She likes to eat duck liver. Each time we prepare food for her,we cut the liver into pieces, then mix with cooked rice. What makes my angry is that she always picks out all the liver to eat up and leaves the cooked rice aside.

yes its alright, you can give table food on dogs. We've been doing that for many years and I think there's no difference giving dog food or table food. We just separate the food that will harm them.
