Do you love trees?

I just discovered that May 16 is Love a Tree day. Here is what I read. It's Love a Tree Day. So, go out and give a tree a great big hug. Trees are a good thing. They give us shade, comfort and warmth. They give off oxygen, too. There are many, many benefits provided by trees. So, you have good reason to love a tree or two. Everyone has a favorite kind of tree. Use today to identify a tree you love, and to pamper it. Give it a trim. Eliminate competitors around it. Feed it a dose of fertilizer. Tree spikes work great. And, give the tree some water, if it is thirsty. Important Note: On Love a Tree Day, your attention must be turned toward trees. A bush or a shrub just won't do. Not sure I'm up for a hug, but I am thankful for a nice shade tree in the summer time. Will you hug or pamper a tree today?

I do love trees, well, there have been a few I've been less than enamored with, but on the whole I love them. I keep planting the darn things, but so far, only one is growing well, right now its somewhat shaded by larger, older trees, but this tree could live hundreds of years and those are already 30+ years old and probably won't live another 30 (they are known to mostly live about 50 years, and already showing their "middle age". I didn't know it was love a tree day and I wasn't home to love one of mine, but I'll probably go do something nice for my "pet" tree, maybe this weekend.

Well, Love a Tree Day is almost upon us again. Maybe this time I'll do something for the maple tree in the front yard.

I've just discovered this information. I never knew that there's actually a Love a Tree Day. It's the first time I've heard of it. When I come to think of it, I have never really hugged a tree ever even when I was younger. Maybe I could try hugging a tree at some point in my life or maybe by next year.

I haven't ever hugged a tree either. When I was a kid, I would climb trees just for fun, maybe that counts for hugging

Hey this is a nice idea to make people aware of the importance of the tree.. being in touch with the trees will improve the link between humans and trees.. I may not hug a tree today will surely will do it later.. tasks you mentioned are simple.. Thanks for sharing such a good idea here and reminding us the value of trees..

Yes, I heard about this therapy and just done once but it really felt good. It's funny, you hug a tree and it seems both beings, human and green exchange energy. It's even recomended to people who have depression. I heard it when I was in a park so...I had to give it a try. The tree never called me back...

I hadn't heard about it being therapy for people with depression, but it makes sense. Seems like spending some time surrounded by nature would improve one's mood.

I hadn't even thought about how the trees can help prevent flooding and landslides. I was so focused on shade and fruit. Good point.

If I had any left. Mine got sick and I miss them! They had to be taken down. My favorite type of tree is a willow tree....if I could have one of those ..well my yard would be perfect!

I am so pleased to see you back! I had noticed that you were missing and wondered if everything was ok. I adore the trees in England. The chestnuts and the old oak trees in the park that I sed to walk through every morning as a child on my way to school are immense - and they are still there even though I am now a grandma! Trees are so important to us all but seem to be of no interest to so many. Really sad. I will hug a tree on my way out tomorrow as it is now dark here. Better late than never I hope!

Hi. caver1. I do love trees. I have always loved pine trees. They give out an paradise look even when you are not in paradise. I also love trees that give off a nice shade, especially from the hot and sweltering sun. I did not know that May 16 was Love A Tree Day. Thanks for reminding all of us.

We have a few pine trees in our yard. They are nice because they stay green thru the winter, so add a little color when most everything else is so drab.

I didn't know that, nice to hear it from you. I wish in my country people would be more earth friendly, and we have that a love a tree day. I love trees, i am amazed with the tress that is a years older than me. Whenever i look in this kind of trees i always ask this question in mind on how old that tree is, or if someone is living in that trees. In our place it is believe by that tree which is old is understand us some "other being" living in that tree, and the said "beings" is taking care of that tree. That if you will cut it you have to ask permission for you might be hurt by those "beings". I wish to travel in other countries, especially that period of season were the color of the leaves and the falling of leaves and the blossom of it. I want to experienced and observed that kind of season in other country. In my place we only have two season.

It is spring here right now and so many plants are blooming. In October the leaves will be changing colors. We have a Sunset Maple in our front yard. It gets its name from the bright red color of the leaves in the fall.

Yes, i love trees, because they give out oxygen, which we need to breathe. They also prevent floods. They give us fruits to eat. As you enter our place where only 5 families lives and have our own fenced houses , at a secluded part of the subdivision, you could already feel the coolness of the place, coming from the road where it was so hot. That's because in between our houses which are a bit far from each other, there are lots of trees around us. There are still vacant lots around us and they are with fruit bearing trees. Some have grown so tall and big, that gives us a cooler place than the rest of the subdivision. That's why at the break of dawn, you could hear the birds chirping and from the window see them perched up on those trees. How i wish when the owners decide to have their own houses there, some trees will be retained.

I never knew that May 16 is a Love tree day,but i remember plating trees last year of October 10,2010 (10-10-10) and we planted more than 10,000 trees. We also take turns to visit and water those plants that we planted, and now those plants are big enough to live and become a shelter and home for birds.

We have a Sunset Maple in our front yard. It provides nice shade for the porch. We planted it when our son was born, so it is 19 years old.

Hello caver1 I DO love trees! Trees are awesome!! I use to be a timber farmer, but in reality, I was a tree lover, because I refused to harvest my crop. I do believe that my favorite tree is the Live Oak. I love how these trees can take on different shapes, especially on the barrier islands, and I like how the spanish moss looks in them. They are also fun to climb. Even though it is a much smaller tree, I also love the jasmine tree, as its aroma is so great. I used to have one of these spectacular trees in my house. I need to get another one. Peace. I love the world!!
