Seriously. I know that I am on a roll as I have never ever posted three discussions in one day. And this too concerns my daughter's wedding. So now I am organised with everything except my hair. I hope that I am not being boring
My hair is brown with highlights and very straight and thick.I had it cut short for years and then this passed year I let it grow, Now it is so long that I pull it back to the nape of my neck using a scrunchy and wear big earrings.
Months of investigation led me to a lady who is reputed to be highly skilled in cutting hair. So i innocently called for an appointment for next Thursday. I wanted n early trial run - did not want my hair cut at the last minute.
Well, the receptionist laughed. Hee hee hee, she went and then explained that as I was new I could only get a Monday appointment. Definitely a pecking order.
Evidently it can take years before I would ever graduate to getting a Wednesday appointment and very unlikely that I would live long enough to get an appointment on a Friday!
Does this happen where you live? Or do we need more hairdressers that can cut straight hair out here?

Sounds to me as if that hairdresser feels her importance a little too much. I think sticking with your usual hairdresser is very important. Someone who knows your hair & has been doing it for a long time is your best bet. It is hard to do anyones hair & get it just right the first time.

I know that you are right and I should have explained that my hair is so long because my hairdresser migrated to the U.K. So I do not have anyone This is why I wanted to try her out. Maybe go a few times before wedding to get it right. Hope the plan works

I guess you could say she knows her worth, and how to keep her clientele happy. I so seldom get my hair cut, and half the time I just do it myself. I also have a niece who will cut it. And it is NEVER straight. I hope that you can find someone who is not quite so exclusive but will do a good job on your hair.

The problem is that my hair is straight in a country where straight haired people are in the minority. I will go on a Monday - just to try her out as once I have the cut then I can get it trimmed before the wedding and then n the day a local person can wash and blow dry. It is the cut that it critical

True, straight hair is not very forgiving of hair cut errors.

l'd love to be able to just walk in and get it done. It is because I am in a minority group. Hairdressers are not all trained to cut straight hair. My Chinese Jamaican friends also have problems in getting their hair cut. Blessings

Hi Cynthiann,
No, we don't have such an issue here at all. I could just walk into almost any hairdresser during the week and even without an appt. or a history, get my hair cut. The only time that could be a problem would be on a weekend when they are busy. The hairdresser's here don't discriminate....the customers do. We all have our favorites. There are only a couple that I really trust to go to. So, how are you having it done?

We are a lot alike I think. Only, I always had the really really long hair and finally realized that it wasn't working for me as I got older. It took me a long time to find a hair dresser that I trusted to make that first cut. I've been wearing my hair with long angled layers now for a few years. Now my daughter is not as picky or as fearful when it comes to getting her haircut as I am so it's great. I just take her to what place is least busy. I love that bob look with the back shorter than the front. I've been trying to get my guts up to try it. It is hard as we age, I think. I just can't do that really short, curly look that my mom had at my age. I've seen your pics and I'm sure you will look great with this new look. You'll have to post us some pics!

WoW! That is wonderful. I wish that I had the choice.
I think that this hairdresser is in demand by the socialites and so from Thursday on her every moment is booked.
My hair was short for years and then last year I sort of let it grow and grow and grow.....
I think that I will have a longish bob with the back a bit shorter than the front. It will be below my jawline but above my shoulders.
Actually my avi is sort of similar to me only the hair is longer. I am aiming to be elegantly simple and I will have my brown hair streaked.
Which is hard for a T shirt and jeans old lady

Hi, cythiann. Congratulations to your daughter on her marriage! I met only one hair dresser like this that was unable to do my hair for an event that I wanted to attend to. This happened in, 2008. I wanted to get my hair pressed for church. We was having a Watch Night Service for the new year to come in. Well, I called her earlier that day. She said that she was doing her last hair in the afternoon and that she was going out of town, I think. Well, I felt as if she could have at least tried to accommodate me. I mean, she has been telling my mother-in-law so many times to tell me to come in to her shop and get my hair done when I felt like it. Well, I finally did. And on my first time she declined me. How does she expect to gain clientele if she does not even take in her new clientele? I could became her potential and long lasting client for all that she may know of. Well, I was disappointed, so I ended up going to a lady that does my sister and my cousin's hair. She pressed my hair for me. And she did not get any money upfront for it either. She gave me the option to pay her back when I can though. I hope that you can get your hair done in time for your daughter's wedding. I just feel that she could have tried to squeeze you in, being that you wanted your hair done for your daughter's wedding. I told the young lady that I wanted my hair done for church and she did not consider this at all. My mother-in-law no longer goes to her to get her hair done at all. She said that she got tired of how strict this young girl's schedule was. She said that the hairdresser wanted to do her hair when she wanted to. She was no longer flexible anymore at all. It figures, why I don't even let her do my hair either!

That must have been so annoying for you. Even though mine is straight it needs to be flat ironed after it is dry and I just cannot do it. I do need a cut so will try to go next week Monday if she will take me but it will be using a day's vacation leave. Not good!

Three? Must go looking for #2...
I have no idea if it happens where I live. I go to the cheap place where you can just walk in!

You are a trusting soul. I have walked in with hair and walked out with a pixie cut.Straight hair classifies me into a minority group out here so I need a specialist.

I'd say it sounds like you need more hairdressers.. though I've never attempted to call any good ones myself. I tend to go where it's cheap!

I know that I am appearing to be a vain old cow but there are reasons to want to look good. For myself, for Rachel to be proud of me and because of Jo being in you-now-what - the biggest party person has been invited. Am I being silly?

well no it doesn't happen here. you can walk straight into the cheaper places and get your hair cut immediately. for straight hair they do it just fine. i think you might have to make an appointment to get afro hair cut or styled properly though. i think most of the cheaper places would make a complete mess of it.

It is the reverse position that I am facing here as I am in a minority. It will work out ok and I am just getting into a panic over everything really.

Where I live, I have no problem having my hair done. There's way too many salons here for that problem to happen. And, the price range varies so everyone from the not-so-blessed to the richly-blessed could have a good hair day. Hope you finally book that appointment. And, congratulations on your daughter's wedding!

In 8 weeks but I wanted a trial run just in case it didn't suit me. But she is supposed to be good. Just that I am not used to this I suppose
