I don't recall ever going to, nor participating in any science fairs as a kid with the exception of having to build a bridge out of a maximum of 100 popsicle sticks and white gule. With my dad's ingenious architectural design, I won the competition through the school but was sick and missed the regional competition :( Although everyone else's bridge eventually collapsed under the weights, min still stands strong today. I can even sit on it LOL
Since I homeschool my youngest daughter, I have a new interest in Science and a variety of experiments. Today we are participating in a History Fair and I'm super excited about it. But I'm yet to find a Science Fair!
What Science experiment do you recall doing as child? Did you participate in Science Fairs?

No, I never won anything, but I do remember having to do a science project in seventh grade. I talked my dad into getting some chicken eggs, (we lived in a suburban neighborhood)and making a cage with a heating lamp so I could see the process of a chick hatching out..Out of the three eggs, only one hatched and I was so excited when I brought in my little chicken..:) Of course I also didn't eat chicken for a long time afterwards, because I wasn't allowed to keep it..lol

Awww how special is that! I've thought of keeping chickens for a while but then I know I wouldn't be able to eat it afterwards either :(
Recently, I've been trying to find butterfly larvae for my daughter... but it's hard to find a place that will sell just a couple and not a whole lot for a classroom of 30 students!

Oh, I hope you find a place to get one. There is a science museum in northern Ohio where my daughters Girl Scout troop went for years and one year they were given cocoon to bring home to watch. We ended up letting it go a few days afterwards, but my neighbor was able to get one of those floor to ceiling houses for her daughters butterfly, it was awesome...

I have joined one when I was still in my junior year in high school. We even made it to regional nevertheless didn't make it for national. Our project was to produce electricity out of water drippings and we did see a spark from it. It was amazing!!

I remember making a volcano and I also remember making a model of the Solar System for a Science Fair in school. I also home school my daughter and I do find that it is harder to find science fairs than some of the other subjects in home school activities.

I never participated in science fairs conversely, we did a science project that has to do with chemicals, I remember, we did made an all purpose cleanser from raw materials. It is composed of water, ammonia, toothpaste, and baking soda, mixing it all up to create a thick blend texture.
So far It works great, not only it cleanses it clears up hard to remove stains. I personally never thought it was that good, It was so effective that I made a suggestion to my mom, which is to replace our branded cleanser with my cheap home-made one and you know what? She liked it. So far I've recreated our useful science project, which I have been using till now.
