OMG! For lunch today, we have no recourse but to order lunch at the mall, because the utility man was absent to buy it for us at those cheaper eateries outside of the mall.
I ordered Mang Inasal's grilled Pecho , (small half chicken trunk)and it was complete with soy sauce, lemon and chili for dipping. Since it has to be held well, so as to cut it into small pieces, i have to wash my hands well and lo! i ate them with my bare hands. OMG! I ate them all! It's really appetizing if i eat with my hands , because it's free to tear the chicken to pieces.
Have you experienced eating with your bare hands too? Did you eat with gusto also?

It is really hard to eat chicken with your spoon and fork. It's easier if you your hands eat every meat of it. Just make it a habit to wash hands or use sanitizer before eating. I also love to eat with bare hands in the house, tuyo (fried dried fish) and fried rice for breakfast!

It's only hard if you don't know how. I find it very simple to use a knife and fork for chicken. It's a question of how you were raised.

Well, you are used to eating with a knife and a pork for chicken because you were raised that way. So, it's understandable that you don't find it hard to eat with a knife and pork for chicken.
But can you carve the meat well from the bones, just using knife and a fork, specially those wings and drumstick?

Yes, tuyo and fried rice too could be eaten by bare hands. Makes you eat a hearty breakfast! But the smell of "tuyo" sticks to the fingers, so i rub it with lemon or with the dishwashing liquid well.

Well, chicken is finger food for me! It's fun eating them with bare hands than with cutlery. But, I do that only at home. I love Mang Inasal's but haven't tried eating them with bare hands!

Mang Inasal has a washing area, complete with liquid soap and hand dryer, so that its customers could eat with their hands should they want to. Hence, i chose to eat with my bare hands all the way. It made my eating more delicious.

Yes, I could imagine that. I see a lot of people do that. Even the commercial of Mark shows him eating with bare hands.

Yes, because the grilled chicken should be held well by the hands , lest it may slip your plate if you don't know how to slice it with the knife, and besides the plate is slippery and so is the chicken.
To be sure that it won't happen hold them with your cleaned bare hands and directly bite from the chicken. It's yummier that way.

That's a cultural thing. I detest eating with my hands. I'll do it when I have to, but I don't enjoy it. I know a man who is even worse than me. He eats sandwiches with a knife and fork. LOL That's worse than me. I'll eat bread with my hands.

It's only more appetizing if it's part of your culture. Philippines here on myLot all say food tastes better with the hands. I think it tastes better with a fork. I even eat corn on the cob with a fork. Some of my friends think I'm a bit nuts, but they love me anyway.

Yes, it's really a cultural thing. Like in India they said they eat with bare hands even on parties.
Us, here in the Philippines, some we do that when at home . It makes eating more appetizing! We just have to wash our hands thoroughly before and after eating though.

I don't think I remember eating chicken without having to hold them.
I think it is a lot safer to do so than having it flown somewhere when you only use the cutlery.
I haven't tried though to eat with my bare hands in public.
I only do so when I eat at home or when we have family picnics.
My husband did so when we ate at Mang Inasals and with the same gusto as you did.
I like their mais con yelo. I had one yesterday.
Have you tried it?

Yes, i have tried all what Mang Inasal has to offer.
Our company handles all the stores which the owner of the mall where our office is, have franchised and one of those is Mang Inasal. It's just adjacent to our office so we sometimes have our lunch delivered from them.
Yes, i have tasted their mais con yelo and i didn't find it that good. But you should try their halo-halo. It's delicious!

well, for us at home, whenever there are relatives to share the foods, we prefer eating with our bare hands. The eating becomes more homey and enjoyable.
Yes, those saucy and soupy foods are eaten with spoon , though.

I ate some Hot N Spicy Banquet party sized chicken wings about two weeks ago. I ate them with my bare hands too. I have no choice but to anyway. These party sized chicken are really small and yummy. I have never heard of gusto before. Your lunch that you have had at the mall, sounds very delicious. I am glad that you have enjoyed your lunch.

Well I usually eat with bare hands only since in India the food is to be eaten with bare hands. There is the Indian dish that is called "roti" that is supposed to be cut into pieces with hands and then eaten by dipping in "sabji" (food item that is prepared with gravy. It is sort of a custom here even some people here eat rice with hands too and believe me the food tastes better (Don't know why!) but it really does taste better. Though we always wash our hands before sitting down to eat food and proper care is taken for hygiene as well.

Whether it is Vegetarian or non-vegetarian food, Many Indians use bare hands to eat. We wash the hands before eating. Even in a Party where all signatories were present, Doctor Radhakrishan used his bare hands to eat. When he was questioned, he said that any body can use any spoon but my hand nobody can use for eating. It is pleasant to eat with bare hands than by spoon or pork. Also we can feel whether the food is in good condition or spoiled.By using spoon this can not be felt.

I know now from all the Indians' responses that it is a tradition for them to eat with bare hands even in parties.
We, Filipinos also eat with our bare hands when the food calls for it and whenever we are at the comforts of our homes. It's really appetizing to eat with our bare hands.

Hi simplyd. Since I am Filipina like you, I experienced eating with bare hands. I usually do it in chicken and crab. Everytime I use my bare hands in eating yummy foods, I was able to consume two cups of rice. Can't resist it. I have tried Mang Inasal's grilled pecho, I love it.

Usually when we eat with our bare hands we tend to consume rice , more than what we ordinarily would consume.
Yes, that's what i ate for lunch that day, PECHO, with soysauce, lemon and siling labuyo as dippings. But i gave my another wrap of rice to my officemate. I am dieting!

In America there are lots of "finger foods" that are at parties and such. Things like chicken wings, pretzels, peanuts, onion rings, french fries... etc. Most people it's a preference to which they eat with... hands.. fingers.. forks. I love to eat pork ribs but can only eat them at home because I hate being out in public and being messy haha. Pizza is always easy to eat with fingers, and thats also they there are ice cream pops on sticks... Finger Food is fun!

Yes, Mang Inasal's concept is "feel at home". The chicken inasal itself suggests that we should eat them with bare hands. That way, we get to eat it to the bones!

Hello SIMPLYD ! I am from India! Though in India we use spoons ,forks and knives like most other western country people use to have their food, but it is a traditional practice in India to have food with bare hands! It is taught to a child how to have food with his bare hands right from his/her childhood! This is possibly done for the reasons quoted below:
1. India is a tropical country and we have all the three seasons in our country! It helps us to get the feeling of the food to estimate the temperature of the food before we eat it. If we find it too hot the food is manipulated in the hand for few seconds to make it suitable to eat without burning the oral cavity!
2. We have some food items like Roti or Chapati which are difficult to at with spoons and forks ,we need to break them with fingers before we have it with curry!
3. We normally have gravy and other ingredients to mix up with rice which requires thorough mixing before having it, which can only be done by hand!
4. Chicken, fish and other meats can be consumed better way by hands instead of the spoons as the spines of fish can easily be removed with fingers. This is difficult to accomplish with spoon and fork!
5. We have food ingredients of various consistencies for our lunch and dinner which can best be eaten by the bare hands!
6. In India Milk fat is used in very large scale and it is mixed with rice along with curry or Dal and this can best be done by bare hand!
7. Tandoori Chicken, friend chicken etc are best be handled and eaten with bare hands, as shown in some western movies, here spoons and forks will get failed miserably!
8. Some ingredients are dry and tough which needs to be broken by hand before eating it!
9. Consuming pickles with tip of fingers in the form of licking gives a different pleasure which a Indian would loose with the help of Spoon and fork !
10. Papad is a dish we eat as a side dish which any one can have with spoons and forks with great difficulty!
Hope this fundamental points will make clear why we people are interested in having the food with our bare hands! Thanks !

Thank you for explaining those to us. Now, we know why Indians have the habit of eating with their bare hands.
Filipinos usually eat with bare hands too , specially when they are at home where the food is usually eaten with bare hands such as chicken , shrimps and grilled seafoods . They also use their bare hands at occasions where the food calls for it.

There are some things that just have to be eaten with the bare hands. Tacos are another thing that you can not use utensils for. As long as your hands are clean I don't see anything wrong with eating chicken with them. It makes it easier and it is fun actually.
@SIMPLYD (90721)

That's true. We just have to clean our hands though, before we use them for eating.
Fried or grilled chicken should be eaten with the hands because you have to hold those drumsticks for you to get a better bite of it.

it is okay as long as we wash our hands thoroughly before touching the food. I usually prefer to eat with bare hands at home or outside, especially when the meal requires dipping, because i find it easier and the food seems tastier, and I don't really care what the other people at the resto are thinking about me. lol
